The world's largest army.........

The world’s largest army… America ‘s hunters! I had never thought about this….

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin .

Allow me to restate that number.

Over the last several months, Wisconsin ‘s hunters became the eighth largest army in the world.

More men under arms than in Iran .

More than in France and Germany combined.

These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan ‘s 700,000 hunters,

All of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that

The hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point?

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting — it’s not just a way to fill the freezer. It’s a matter of national security.

As long as we do not allow our "elected representatives" to do to us what those of England, Australia and Canada have done to their constituents.

Interesting post, Big Teddy. I'd always imagined that to be the case, but to see those kinds of numbers..... that's pretty impressive.

Now if everyone will just "stick to their guns" (pun intended) when the time comes, we'll be in decent shape.

That is interesting.

I can't help but wonder about Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota. We retired to a rural area of NE and opened a restaurant. Because of hunters we opened earlier than usual. My crew fought for morning shifts because of hunters.

Thanks for the statistics.

Well after the Giants game their Sundays will be free until September...

Seriously, though impressive these numbers are more an indictment of our NATO allies dropping the ball for their own defense.

Reading this just brings a smile to my face... My wife was a champion skeet shooter at her high school. I definitely kept that key attribute in mind when deciding I wanted to be with her the rest of my life. There is no fear of a zombie apocalypse in this house.

I read the thread and had to know.......

According to DNR in 2011, a total of 14,974,534 hunting licenses were issued in the US.

Admiral Yamamoto had a point.

Indeed he did, and also saved his country a major embarrassment.

Excelent thread! Thanks BT, this brought a smile to my face. I've never hunted but always wanted to. Makes a really good point.

The Canadian firearm community is doing just fine, for the record*
