I remember the day when you couldn't get anything for being a vet. How times have changed.

Overwhelming

Have been out of the US for almost 16 years. Seeing a list like that is pretty overwhelming although I won't be asking anything for it.

Thanks for posting it.

never hurts to ask

i'm kind of a cheap bastard but i ask about veterans discount almost everywhere i go.

lots of stores have them and i have never been laughed at or turned away just for asking.

over the last three years, i have saved more than $400 at home depot alone.

I ask for every discount I can get. Manager's Specials, Seniors, blah blah.
I wear them out.

One time, we were in Dallas for a Redd Volkaert concert, and they sold out of tickets right before we reached the counter. I asked the girl to be honest with me, "If the POTUS came to see the show, could you manage to find him a couple tickets?"

She said, "Of course!"

I said, "Well, he ain't gonna be here, so I'll take his."

This has really snowballed over the past couple of years and my wife bless her heart always makes it a point to contact the restaurants that are kind enough to feed me on Veterans Day. Its nice to be recognized its also nice that this day has not been turned into just another three day holiday by the government like Memorial Day. A big THANKS to ALL my fellow Vets and not just on Veterans Day but every day!!

Student discount

I once asked if a military discount was availble at a movie theater near Ft. Lewis. Young lady told me "no we only have students discounts". Well I proceeded to explain the differance between a young collage student living in a dorm and having to go to classes all probably paid for by Mom and Dad or a student loan and a soldiers duties and lifestyle. We got the student discount

LinkedIn HackADay for Heroes

http://blog.linkedin.com/2011/11/07/veterans/ and http://veterans2011.linkedin.com/

Quote:
We’re also excited for our first ever Veterans Hackday at LinkedIn this Friday. We welcome all hackers and innovators to spend Veterans Day this year using their technical skills to help our veterans. I have no doubt that we will see some creative hacks that will help improve the lives of veterans.
Additionally, LinkedIn will be offering some of it premium services i.e. Job Seeker to veterans for free.

Quote:
On Thursday, we will also be launching a special microsite tailored for veterans with tips, tools and information on the best ways to find new opportunities across the LinkedIn network. We will also offer all veterans in the U.S. a free one-year Job Seeker subscription, an aggregate value of up to $100 million. All veterans with updated military experience on their LinkedIn profiles will receive an email with more information on how to take advantage of their free subscription and premier tools for job seekers. If you are a veteran, but not yet on LinkedIn, we encourage you to create a LinkedIn profile and access the utilities we’re offering to veterans.

I have to say-"The SF NCO was always the best." If I were younger- I'd be there.
