Law Firm Halloween Party ( 2010 )

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/29/op...veal.html?_r=1

It's nice to see the true colors come out from some of the employees in that firm. Maybe they were forseeing their lifestyles when the Justice Department is done with them.

I am a bit confused as to the actual point of your post.....

The point of the post is to show a very disgusting behavior, none of those people know what it is like being in that situation yet they think it's funny. The individuals in the photos come from a position of power and mock those who are on the receiving end.

If you have ever worked in a place where you had to collect or deal with the public on past due payments you would see the humor in that outfit.

And by the way her friend should have had a sign that said her check got lost in the mail.

I should just stop paying my student loans back because after all I already graduated so now it's like just a waste and it's all wall streets fault and evil corporations that I'm in debt anyway. They should have known better then to loan me money.

YMMV

If you read the article in completion, the firm is being investigated by the Attorney General and this little tid bit is damning.

"MFY Legal Services, which defends homeowners, and Harwood Feffer, a large class-action firm, have filed a class-action suit claiming that Steven J. Baum has consistently failed to file certain papers that are necessary to allow for a state-mandated settlement conference that can lead to a modification"

Why are you bringing student loan issues into this? Is this your attempt at being humorous?

To me, the employees in the photos are just a bunch of dicks.

Ummmm...OK- annnnnddddddd what

You don't know none of those people have never been in that situation. Perhaps they have and worked their way out of it?

They can "mock" who ever they please. Who cares? Be it the estimated 8% of folks who actually come onto hard times and lose their homes (probably not who they are making fun of) or the other estimated 92% who got loans they couldn't afford and were living beyond their means. Hence, it is a cash cow for them AND their firm.

Not to mention the photos and party was a year ago. BFD...

There is much more going on in the world to get your panties in a wad over than a foreclosure firm's Halloween party. No different than cops making fun of perps, med folks making fun of patients.

Sensitivity training is hereby mandated!!!

Meh- Much adieu over nothing...

Some might say that this costume discussion is - so last year - a tempest in a teapot and intellectually bankrupt.

I think you are wrong, it is not "nothing", the fact that this piece of bad PR got out is going to cause a backlash ( over which the firm has apologized and will continue until they are blue in the face ) because now we know how they stereotype everyone that was affected by the economy. It shows the mindset of these places and how it is in parallel with the big banks that they represent.

Well I am SO very happy that NOW WE KNOW that the OWS movement is LEGIT!!!

Please

When exactly are people supposed to take responsibility for their own actions and decisions? WHEN are people going to be held accountable for even APPLYING for a $200,000 house on a $40K income with a family of 6?

Restructuring programs? Loan "forgiveness"? They can kiss my ass.

I worked my Army job PLUS another (at times TWO) in order to support myself and my family. During my divorce, my ass lived in a tent on a lake for 9 months but I never fell behind on a single financial obligation. Including the home I wasn't even living in. Tried to get "house payment / interest rate help", but you couldn't get it unless you were already behind 3-6 months. Guess what, I GOT ANOTHER JOB. Didn't pay but minimum wage, but it was money and money was what I needed. And minimum wage WASN'T beneath me to do.

NOW there are all kinds of Gov't programs and that is what folks are relying on.

This firm has nothing to do with the big banks and mindset. Go back to whatever OWS "village" you were at. I am sure they are missing someone.

Got a Hurt Feelings Report if you need one.

No sense of humor at all these days. I could care less what a law firm thinks or makes fun of. As long as they follow the law.

I agree with Eagle5. I do what I have to in order to pay my bills, and consider it a moral obligation.

Reminds me of people who max out several credit cards having a good time, and then declare bankruptcy rather than pay their debts.

This has nothing to do with OWS movement but you can bet that this will be ammo for them. It shows a total lack of professionalism amongst the employees.

Hell they're already apologizing to save face

Ok so you lived in a tent, not everyone can do that, especially with a family of 6.

Doesn't the fact that they didn't bother to fill out any state mandated paperwork for a loan modification bother you? Instead they chose to screw over everyone.

This is incredibly unimportant...
You Sir, are totally missing the whole "people taking responsibility for their own actions" part. Which, you may be so inclined to acknowledge privately, is what the majority of the people on PS.Com hold in very high regard as a personal obligation that there is little room for compromise on (as so aptly stated by TR above).

The "economy" didn't overextend these people. THE PEOPLE overextended themselves. It is THAT SIMPLE. Unfortunately, the people cannot look to their own administration as a positive example as they are no better with our ever increasing "limitless credit card" being swiped from Pennsylvania Ave.

And why can't a family of 6 live in a tent? Better yet, why can't a family NOT be a family of 6 unless the parents can AFFORD TO BE A FAMILY OF 6 What a concept...

Feel free to get worked up over this. Free Country and all.

unsubscribing now....

That's fine, but I still stand by my point of view. Responsibility works both ways, and this law firm's practices clearly lacked that as well.

As usual

As usual, Joe is correct!!!!

While going through rough times, I had "No Food Friday's" and "Ketchup Soup Wednesday's". I wish I was making that up but, I am not.

I never missed a payment of anything. If I couldn't afford it, I didn't need it. Now that all my hard work from the past is paying off, some dipshit is saying "where's mine", let's "level the playing field", and "let's start over". I say fuck that.

If you really want what I have, come and get it.

As far a some dumbass Halloween costume party, good for them. Big picture, doesn't change my 3 feet of world, doesn't change yours.
