Moderate Islamist party claims election win in Tunisia

Moderate Islamist party claims election win in Tunisia

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-15438945

Some hopeful news in North Africa.

".......Tunisia's moderate Islamist party, Ennahda, is claiming victory in Sunday's elections, the first free poll of the Arab Spring.............."

The secular PDP has admitted defeat. They will have to go with the moderates. The questions now become "how moderate are the moderates" and "what will their constitution look like"

Time will tell.

A story on some of the political background and tensions.

Tunisia election: Loving and loathing Islamists

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-15377242

"Following the "Arab Spring", it is now a crisp autumn day in the suburb of Siciliana and 26-year-old Neila Herela walks me towards her family's small fire burning on the open street.

"I'm not going to vote in these elections," she says tearfully, as a small child drags a huge water carrier across the street. "Look at my family, living on the street - on the pavement."......................."

Yes indeed that's the key question?.......

The questions now become "how moderate are the moderates" and "what will their constitution look like"..........

It will be interesting to see where they go on this...........

Protests hit Sidi Bouzid after historic Tunisia poll

Protests hit Sidi Bouzid after historic Tunisia poll

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-15488077

"Violent protests have erupted in central Tunisia, after the results of the country's first democratic elections in decades were announced.

Police used tear gas against hundreds of people in Sidi Bouzid who were protesting against the cancellation of seats won by one of the parties.............."

Now, not being and expert in the political workings of Tunisia, on the surface it doesn't look too bad. A few seats canceled, a few protesters and some property destroyed.

But - what can be done to a few can be done to a few more.

We shall see.

Al-Qaida plants it's Flag - literally - in Libya

What any given majority of Muslims want gets overridden by the few extremists who run the show. That is what the west continues to look past.

"If there were questions about al-Qaida’s role in post-Gadhafi Libya, VICE reporter Sherif Elhelwa provides some answers in a new story with eyewitness descriptions................................"
