Surgery...AGAIN!

Well, it's been an age since I've posted here. Mostly been lurking and reading...and taking inspiration from all that I find.
My current situation is another surgery...2nd on the R shoulder. This time around they performed a biceps tenodesis (cut biceps tendon, drill 3cm deep x 6mm wide hole in bone, then anchor left-over tendon in bone with set screw), and anchored the torn labrum (cup/glenohumeral cartilage) in three different places with a new "goliath" anchor system.
All in all, I'm doing fine, out of my sling, and doing PT to get it back into shape. Only problem is that I tore the other (L) one up (Cartilage and rotator cuff) and have to have it operated on sometime next year.
At least my mind is in the right place, even if the body just won't comply. Thanks again for all the support. The mindset of the leaders here is what has allowed me to keep my head up and pointed in the right direction during these times of physical adversity. I'm realizing that it's time to move on to PA school and let the young guys do all the running, jumping, climbing, shooting, stuff. Well, ok, I'll go back to IDPA and shoot there.

Cheers!

Best wishes to you in your recovery, and your next surgery.

Getting along

@ RedFlag1: Hopefully you received my PM. Thanks again for any info you can passs my way.

@greenberetTFS: Thanks so much for the well-wishes. I'm NOT getting too old for everything, but I am intelligent enough to know when to bow out gracefully to certain activities. Especially since my surgeon told me I have a congenital issue with my joints (shoulder and hips)...they're too wide, and not deep enough for the ball portion of the bone to sit in deeply enough, which places me at higher risk of dislocation (that explains the hip dislocation and surgeries too) or tearing something. Age, and 32 years of Aikijistu, Aikido, and all the other heavy stuff I've been into haven't helped, I'm sure. At least I can still get out and run!

Cheers!

Good luck with the recovery! Hope you decide to stick with the aikido, perhaps not for the help it may or may not be doing, but for the sake of doing aikido many more years. I'm comming up on my twenty years in aikido, so I'm about 12 behind you. You are lucky to have started so young to rack up 32 years.

Update - 6.5 months post op

Well, it's been another while since I posted regarding the biceps tenodesis, etc.

Everything is coming along just fine. Have acheived far more ROM at this juncture than during the previous surgery's recovery for the same time frame.

Strength is coming along a little at a time. Not rushing anything, just taking the PT's advice and working as he says.

Thanks again for all the support. Sorry to be such a ghost for so long. Life has just gotten busy, with getting a HS senior ready for college, and all the wrestling matches of the 15 yr. old, and married life in general. Life is good!

Cheers!
