The .416

Any of youz guys fired the new .416 or know about it? Barrett came out with a semi-auto rifle for it this year, or late last, 2010. Is or has SF or anyone in SOCOM given it a look? Heard that Zel and Bohica have rifles to fire the .416. Anyone fired or seen those? The .416 is supposed to have flatter trajectory, less signature and only slightly reduced effective range. Thoughts? Opinions? Does the .416 have a military application and future?

No military application (we can't even get someone to POM the .338). FWIW - the .416 is a "political" cartrige - designed/marketed to get around Kalifornia's prohibition on .50 BMG. I suggest a little more research - like a cost per round comparison with the .50 BMG.

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Absolutely correct. I've seen many of the .416 Barretts for sale here. If I remember correctly, the original .416 in the Rigby was originally designed as an African cartridge.
