Rep Jesse Jackson Calls on Gov't to Hire ALL Unemployed Americans @ 40K ea.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011...americans-for/

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has offered his own $804 billion jobs plan that calls on the federal government to hire the nation’s 15 million unemployed Americans for jobs paying roughly $40,000 each, and bail out all the states and cities facing budget crises.

In an interview with the Daily Caller on Wednesday, the Illinois Democrat applauded President Obama for directing his staff to greenlight job-creating initiatives without congressional approval after his $447 billion jobs bill was defeated in the Senate this week.

“Now we’re making some progress,” Jackson said, comparing the legislative gridlock in Congress to the states that seceded from the union during the Civil War.

"We've seen Congress is in rebellion," he said, "determined to wreck or ruin at all costs."

Jackson said the government’s direct hiring of the nation’s 15 million unemployed Americans would cost $600 billion.

“It could be a five-year program,” he said. “For another $104 billion, we bail out all of the states. For another $100 billion, we bail out all of the cities.”

“We put people to work cleaning up communities. We put people to work through a civilian conservation corps, through a Works Progress Administration because the hour demands it,” he said.

“And as more people work, they pay taxes, they pay taxes into the 4th quarter, they buy wares, they buy homes, they meet their obligations and our economy begins to work its way out of this protracted recession,” he continued. “That’s the only way out of this crisis. And I hope the president begins to continue to exercise extraordinary constitutional means based on the history of Congresses that have been in rebellion in the past.”

But not everyone is convinced that Jackson's plan would work. Even a fellow Democrat has criticized it.

“In Rep. Jackson’s entire congressional career, he has never introduced a single jobs bill,” Debbie Halvorson, who is challenging Jackson in the Democratic primary, said in a written statement. “Now, he’s calling on the president to suspend the Constitution? As a representative of the people, you don’t give up when you hit a roadblock and throw the Constitution out the window – you keep working to get something done."

In this guy's defense, giving money directly to people would have been a helluva lot more effective that Obama's gajillion dollar stimulus package.

I wonder how many folks with REAL jobs making less than 40k would quit so they could get a 40k gub-mint job?

...the second and third order effects could be pretty interesting.

Jackson is an idiot and stores more shit in his head as 'knowledge' than most of us store in our colon as waste.

Just my opinion, maybe I am wrong

JJJr's understanding of basic economic/mathematical facts or lack there of is frightening.

I heard it described as standing in a bucket and trying to lift yourself up by the handle... I think it was Winston Churchill who said it. Correct me if I am wrong...

Let me know when they get this thing rolling and need supervisors @ $80k per annum - I may have to dust off the ol' resume' and come out of retirement.

Genius, pure genius......

What's amazing, in my opinion, is that any main stream media thinks this is news worthy......

not gonna argue Jackson being an idiot but an interesting twist on this is extended unemployment benefits under this "jobs" program but put people to work cleaning streets or other such tasks that can benefit society.

That is almost GS 9 pay... To do what? FDR did the with his socialist programs on the '30s. Dig a hole... And fill it in. Sit in a tower and watch for fires. This is treating a symptom of a disease. Promote a positive environment for businesses, and get the he'll out of the way. Let the rich get richer...I don't give a damn if other people make a shit load of money. Poor people don't hire, nor are they particularly good tippers for others that count on generosity at the restaurant table.

I disagree that there is any social merit at all to Jacksons ridiculous program. He is asking for taxpayer money to create "make-work" jobs that provide no real benefit to society.

Please indulge me for a moment:

...I pay a local company to pick up my trash
...I pay to have someone come by and collect my recycled crap
...I pay someone to take care of my lawn
...I pay someone to maintain my automobile
...I tip my waitress and I buy candy bars when school kids knock on the front door

I have been busting my ass for over 20 years and don't make much more than 40k. Please consider the above bullet statements and realize that I am helping to promote the economy. It may be a SMALL boost to the economy but guess what: I am still spending my money on NON-government owned services which means another citizen makes a buck instead of giving that money to the gub-mint to mismanage paying another "Czar" to run the "Department of Cleaning Up Communities". Citizens with money is what helps the economy. Gub-mint control of money hurts us all.
If I can spend my hard earned money paying citizen businessmen, then surely someone wishing to make 40k a year picking up trash or collecting recycled material can find a job with one of these companies. However, if I decide to start taking care of my own lawn, someone gets a pay cut. If I decide to start changing my own oil, ANOTHER person gets a pay cut. If I decide to quit recycling then someone ELSE gets a pay cut AND the environment suffers.
The US Government really only has a few "businesses" to run... They have ran the post office into the ground. They are doing their best to destroy military retirement. Federal law enforcement gives gun to mexican criminals and then pushes for more control measures over American gun ownership... Are these really the folks we want to manage an initiative that is going to start handing out 40k a year "jobs" to everyone in the USA that cant find a private sector job? I wonder how many lower enlisted troops in the military would leave the service once they found out they could make more money doing police call for the gub-mint than for the Army...
Jackson is an idiot, and I find no merit in his idea. Its politics as usual and his 40k a year salary idea is just being another way of saying "I would like to buy your vote using taxpayer dollars". I welcome any differing opinions, but I don't think there is any way that I can be convinced to find merit at any level with JJ's suggestion.

respectfully submitted,
BL

The apple definitely hasn't fallen far from the tree. His father always had a plan as long as it didn't affect the family finances.

Yes. Or even harvest crops.

The governor of Washington state proposes making it easier for illegals to work in the U.S. and that seems just as idiotic as Jackson's suggestion. Let the welfare and inmate populations have the work.

Quote:
WASHINGTON - With too few hands to pick the apples in Washington state, Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire says the farm labor shortage has prompted a crisis.

In the Wenatchee Valley east of the Cascade Mountains, apple growers have posted their help-wanted signs across the countryside. And for the first time in years, growers in the state have launched a radio campaign, offering pay of $120 to $150 a day, but there have been few takers, much to the governor’s regret.

“We’re not getting anybody to take a bite on these jobs, so we don’t have anybody to do these jobs,” she said Thursday night.

While much of the talk on Capitol Hill is tough, with opponents of illegal immigration vowing to seal the borders, Gregoire said Congress should instead focus on a way to get more foreign workers to help with harvesting in her state, the nation’s top producer of apples.

It’s become an increasingly common refrain this year across the country:

• In Alabama, where a new state law is aimed at cracking down on illegal immigrants, the construction, agriculture and poultry industries all report huge shortages of labor.

• A study by the University of Georgia this year found that the state had a shortage of 5,244 workers in the fields.

• In California, farmers have complained of too few workers to pick the avocados.

• In Texas, growers have appealed for more employees to help pick their organic crops and vegetables, with little luck.

Than who is going to pay for it if everyone works for the government?
