NHL Lockout

I am completely depressed about this. I know that SDiver is a hockey fan (albeit of a really evil team). If there are others here, please identify yourselves.

Hockey?

Is that a sport?

Well, let's just dispense with the pucks and pretenses that the fans are there to see scoring.

Have them just march into the rink in gear with sticks and just slug it out. Last man standing's team wins.

If this is what you want, then the Quebec Senior League is for you. I'll post a link to the official site when I'm back at work, but here's an article I googled to give you the flavor. (The official site is in French, so it's not coming up easily.)

I don't seem to have a link to the League's site (maybe there isn't one), but here are links to all of the Quebec Senior League team sites.

Seriously though, TR, you obviously haven't been to a game lately. The NHL has made all kinds of rule changes that have really cut down on the amount of fighting in the game. There is still lots of violence from checking, but that's not so different from football (except that there is a lot more speed contributing to the violence of the hit).

I would think that hockey would be popular among SF guys, at least if they've given it a chance.

Where are the Canadians on the board when we need them?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with hockey. It's a great sport. Just, the NHL needs to get over the idea that it's a sport on par with baseball, football, and basketball (popularity-wise) and make some changes to the rules to make for a more exciting game (not necessarily only regarding fighting, either). Until then, I'll be chillin' and watching the local and semi-pro leagues.

I like the Colorado Avalanche, and usually do most of my watching during the playoffs. The lockout minimizes the disappointment I get when the 'lanche blow a series that they should have won.

Broad Street Bullies RULE

I am a fanatic Flyers fan.

I just figured out how to get NHL Center Ice here in Thailand. I am all over it.

I am bummed about the lock-out, but think that it will be good for the league and the sport, over all. Some realignment is necessary.

As for "violence" in hockey.....my personal opinion is that you really have to love a sport where two guys can drop the gloves, slug it out barefisted while grappling on skates, and then get "five for fighting."

Beautiful.

My favorite sport, bar none.

Do you feel that if the lockout goes on, some teams may fold? That is a bit of a drastic realignment. I like the way the league is now. If some teams have to go, then I'd be disappointed. I would actually view that as a bit of a self inflicted wound on the players' part, though.
