Missing Brother

The following link was sent to me by another.

http://www.outtherecolorado.com/2011...nt-antero.html

The body of a retired Army special forces colonel from Monument was found Tuesday afternoon, two days after the man set out to climb Mount Antero.

An Army helicopter spotted the body of Wayne Kirkbride, 61, around 3:30 p.m. after an exhaustive search involving 34 people, according to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office. He was dead when rescuers reached him.

It appears Kirkbride, who was an experienced hiker, fell off the crest of a steep slope near Cascade Falls, the sheriff's office said. Deputies are unsure when he fell.

His wife reported him missing Sunday evening and rescue crews began looking for him Monday, the sheriff's office said.

Crews will convene Wednesday morning to bring his body off the mountain southwest of Buena Vista.

Very sad news. My wife and I were just out in Buena Vista last week and my father-in-law was telling me that Antero was popular because one could readily find quartz, gold, and silver just lying around.

Prayers out to the family.

God Bless,Rest in Peace Warrior...........

He was just a simple soldier and his ranks are growing thin
But his presence should remind us; we may need his like again,
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY. (author unknown)

The passing of our soldiers often go unnoticed and unsung by most of the world, remembered only by family and friends. Wish it were not so. May he RIP, his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
