(In)Famous Blue Screen of Death(BSoD)

..is going away

http://www.networkworld.com/communit...life-windows-8

Windows 8 is to include a brand spankin new Screen of Doom with a sad face emoticon, and a customizable color palette, so now your computer can tell you it's FUBAR in warm pastels, making you feel all warm and fuzzy while your CPU roasts and motherboard capacitors explode.

I installed Windows 8 today. It took me a while to find where in Windows 8 to add the machine to the domain. I messed something up and now only have a black screen. I can CTRL+ALT+DELETE to the log in screen which works and then log in as other users, but all have a black screen. (This is running as a VM on Hyper-V Server. I think the integration services for Hyper-v did me in.)

I will mess with it again this weekend. My goal is to see if and how my employer's software works on it.

Isn't that a Beta version??? Never go with a Beta version. Too many bugs to work out.

This is the pre-beta developer preview, released Tuesday I think. I have it up and running as of today.

This version is installed on a virtual machine and I can snapshot and restore it anytime I want. I work for a software company and we need to make sure our product works with the new Windows when released, which is my job.

The start menu circle button in Windows 7/Vista functionality sends you too a collection of panels for various programs included in the preview. If you want to get to the command prompt, you need to type "cmd" into a free area on the desktop and then an app menu appears where you can choose it.

I am a supporter of Microsoft software but my first impression is, "what are they thinking?"

I found this site that helped me with the command prompt
