A leading member in the Congressional Black Caucus is under fire after accusing Tea Partiers representatives of seeing African Americans as "second-class citizens" who would like nothing more than to see them "hanging on a tree."

Video that surfaced Tuesday shows Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) delivering the shocking remarks at a Aug. 22 jobs event in Miami sponsored by the caucus.

"We have seen change in Congress. … The Tea Party is stopping that change," Carson says in a video montage posted on conservative radio host Glenn Beck's site, TheBlaze.com.

"This is the beyond symbolic change," Carson continues. "This is the effort that we are seeing of Jim Crow. Some of these folks in Congress would love to see us as second class citizens. Some of them in Congress of this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me … hanging on a tree."

Carson's spokesman did not immediately return requests for comment.

His office confirmed to The Huffington Post that the 36-year-old politician made the remarks, arguing they were in response to Congress' failure to improve the economy.

"The Tea Party is protecting its millionaire and oil company friends while gutting critical services that they know protect the livelihood of African-Americans, as well as Latinos and other disadvantaged minorities," Jason Tomcsi said.

"So, yes, the congressman used strong language because the Tea Party agenda jeopardizes our most vulnerable and leaves them without the ability to improve their economic standing," Tomcsi added.

Jenny Beth Martin, spokeswoman for the Tea Party Patriots --the nation's largest Tea Party organization -- called Carson's remarks "ridiculous" and "outlandish."

"Unfortunately we've seen since right before debt limit was increased, this was becoming status quo for members of congress," Martin told the Daily News. "It's ridiculous. They're offending millions of Americans who want nothing more than to see fiscal responsibility restored to our country. That's what we want. They are making these comments to distract people from the real issue at hand."

The 36-year-old lawmaker's comments are just the latest the caucus has hurled at the Tea Party.

Black Caucus member and 11-term Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) came under the microscope earlier this month when she said the "Tea Party can go straight to hell" at a jobs forum in the Golden State.

Ya wonder why the race division keeps on propagating...

You can't have equality when condoning unequal practices...based off of race, religion, etc, etc...

It's sad that the Black community has this attitude about the Tea Party movement,if that remark isn't racist than what is it?.....................

Call attention to something they fear they might lose (like any current "entitlement").
Point to someone who is to blame for it and make them afraid.
Tell them that you know the answer and can make it better.

This is Playbook-101, and they are running it. It's all in the chapter "How to Engender & Maintain Class Warfare.

Those from the fine state of Indiana are no strangers to the intelligent statements of those 'statesmen like' representatives from the "Carson" family. I'll just leave it at... "stupid is, as stupid does."

I think the dems are making a big mistake going after the tea party. In the end it millions of regular people. Its not like they are attacking a PAC or something.

Concur.

They know they're in trouble because of the ineptitude of their current candidate, so they go to the next step in the battle plan-destroy the competition.

They're afraid of the Tea Party, just as they're afraid of Rick Perry.

FWIW, I agree.

IMO, the evidence suggests that the Democratic party is attempting to make the 2012 elections a national referendum on the Tea Party movement (TPM).

The TPM could turn this approach on its head by identifying and neutralizing the fire eaters within its ranks and also by addressing thoughtfully the opposition's accusations of racism. ("States rights" means drastically different things to different cohorts.)

I'm not afraid of Rick Perry - but I am afraid that there are enough people who know little to nothing of him and will push to have him run as the Republican candidate for POTUS. I'd be 100% in support of Perry running for Congress (as long as it wasn't my district) to get him out of Austin - but for POTUS...

If the general election is between Obama and Perry, I'm gonna have a case of the red chapped @$$ at an electorate that forced me to vote for Perry as being the least smelly of the polecats on the ballot.

This pic of a pickup from Longview, Texas, pretty much sums up how many here in The Lonestar State feel about the pride of the Aggies.

In response to recent comments made by Indiana Democratic Rep. Andre Carson and California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters that denigrate the tea party movement, Florida Republican Rep. Allen West — a member of both the Congressional Black Caucus and the Tea Party Caucus — sent a letter to CBC Chairman Emanuel Cleaver Wednesday requesting that the body condemn such remarks.

“As Chairman of the CBC, I believe it is incumbent on you to both condemn these types of hate-filled comments, and to disassociate the Congressional Black Caucus from these types of remarks. Otherwise, I will have to seriously reconsider my membership within the organization,” West wrote. (OPINION: Andre Carson:Serial racebaiter)

The freshman congressman declared, “It is unconscionable when a fellow CBC Member, Congressman Andre Carson, comes to South Florida and claims that some in the Tea Party would love to see black Americans ‘hanging on a tree.’ It is appalling to hear another CBC colleague, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, say ‘The Tea Party can go straight to hell.’”

How is the link of kinship to Eldridge Cleaver relevant?

Even the least amount of cursory research provides compelling evidence that the late Mr. Cleaver and the current representative of Missouri's fifth congressional district have little in common when it comes to political philosophies. (Compare this to that.)
