A teenager, whose dream it is to one day join SF.

Hello. I am wondering as a teenager (I don't want to disclose my exact age.) what I can do to prepare for joining US Army SF. For quite a while, it's been my dream to do this. I am on my school's cross country and track team, so running should not be a problem. However, I am curious as to how I should train otherwise. I have basically 3 questions.

1. Is swimming important in SF training? (I'm talking about SFAS and the Q-Course, not Combat Diver School.

2. Should I focus on weight training, or a lot of calisthenics?

3. How can I prepare mentally for SF training?

1. Fill out your profile.
2. Post an introduction in the Introduction thread.
3. Search and read the forums as your questions have been answered before.
4. Buy the book "Get Selected."

Do not post until you have done the above.

Some of us here went to selection or the Q as teenagers, so youth is not an excuse for not following directions. But learn from your mistakes and enjoy your time as a teenager... keep your nose clean, chase skirts, and get off the internet and go outside.

You have plenty of time to get ready. Just read everything you can on the subject and study by using key words in the search function on this BB to start.

When you reach legal drinking age, learn to shoot with a beer in your hand. Your shooting hand.

Avoid poisonous reptiles, Democrats and wily educators.

Buy a Tee shirt with a Reaper in the Tick.

Get one model of each of Master Bill Harsey's blades.

Get a tattoo of the indig kid from "The Green Berets" movie, preferably on the back of your neck.

acoolperson1969 - FYI - that PINK font you see in Post #5 denotes sarcasm in the accepted language of this BB's postings.

I thought I should say something before the kid went out and tried to do all those things Dusty-san told him because it is pretty obvious his situational awareness, reading comprehension, and ability to follow simple instructions is lacking.

And so it goes...

Yeah, well he PM'd me already and stated that the admonition to avoid wily educators was unnecessary.

On a serious note follow your dreams. All I ever wanted to do was join the Army and specifically Special Forces as my older brother of 13 years was in Special Forces. If you were to ask anyone who knew me well as a teenager they knew exactly what I wanted to do.

Want it bad enough, keep yourself in shape be trustworthy, honorable, true to your word and above all "NEVER' quit or feel sorry for yourself is the best advice I can give you.

I had your older Brother going a couple times, Bro.

He was a good catfisherman, but he couldn't tell shine from kerosene.
