47 years ago today on Thrusday, July 23, 1964 in a well planned and executed daylight battalion sized ambush by elements of the NVA and Viet Cong on Hwy.QL14, Darlac Province District, II Corps South Vietnam George Underwood was Killed in Action while leading a convoy back to Buon Brieng Special Forces Camp. George was on a 6 month TDY deployment as a medic with ODA-312 from the 1st SFG (Abn) company C. The medic who replaced George also from C Company 1 SFG (Abn) Sp.5 Ricardo Davis while serving with SOG in 1969 with RT Copperhead went MIA on 3/20/1969 and on 7/11/1974 he was classified as a ground casualty with the presumptive finding of death.
