Interesting idea.

My grandfather(RIP) lived till 89, he had a PH due to tank shell shrapnel taking out part of his intestine near Monte Cassino. Maybe there is something to it...

Read that awhile ago and have a slightly dif theory.
The vast majority of the time the PH getters are combat arms guys...I think combat arms guys are just slightly more tenacious.

I think there is something to your statement. Those that have received combat related wounds (more severe than kerry's) get a little mental fortitude reinforcement and ego stroking.

Awards for valor are great,, but bullet hole(s), fragg'ns, and IED's that you walk away from are life altering..

The VA should matrix airborne vs leg vets. Bet the jumpers live loner??

Only because their vertebrae are compressed and they can't ride their motorcycles any longer.

There's a lot to be said for bending your knees when necessary.
