Maybe one of these days the media will get the difference between SF and SOF.

Right, I'm sure the SEALS could use another Los Angeles class nuclear submarine outfitted for them.....

Do the SEALS call themselves "quiet professionals"?

Yahoo has them saying that the Navy calls the SEAL team "quiet professionals" and they would rather not get any special attention for their actions.

Sounds strangely like SF.

Doubtful. some simple things seem very hard for them to grasp.
Every long gun is an assault rifle to them. And we won't even start on pistols.

Would be nice if it really went to SF Command.

I'm not real clear as to when ST 6 stood up, but I do remember when they asked for help and made the trip to Ft. Bragg, NC to get instructions by a few SF guys. ST 6 wanted to be different from the 'other' SEAL teams, closer to DC, close access to SF and far away from Coronado, CA.

Aside from other SEAL teams, ST 6 does have a slightly higher average age, slightly higher average paygrade, slightly higher average leadership experience. Hanging around DC will do that, avoiding the SEAL biker bars of So CAL helps also.

Your take? Does living in the DC area help or hinder a groups access to politicos who have ears and years of influence?

I know plenty of people in the armed forces who don't seem to grasp the difference between SF and SOF, so I find it hard to expect much of laypersons like most in the media.

But I really find the weapons ignorance annoying, if only because far too many journalists, pundits and politicians feel free to revel in their ignorance. All armored vehicles are tanks. All fully- or semi-automatic weapons are "machine guns", unless they're also "assault rifles."

They are located very close to Norfolk and the other East Coast SEAL teams.

They are NOT near DC, as a quick map check can demonstrate.

MOO, the most pernicious symptoms of the ignorant reveling are referring to every plan as a "strategy" and to every outcome as a "game changer."

If not them, then who(m), (hey I aint no english major)??? I wonder...
