I saw this a while back - it's scary how true this rings for some junior researchers.

I was handed a project with little expectation of success. Long hours, lots of reading and hard work (not to mention a good deal of stubbon-ness) have lead to the opportunity to present my work at international, national and regional meetings, along with a national award (my first) I'll be receiving in a few days. We're in the process of finishing the manuscript which the head our division feels is strong enough to submit to NEJM.

Impossible is relative.

LMAO!!!!!!!!

buahahhahaa!

the instant I saw the microtome that video was a pure win. When you fail for the nth time to perfectly place a heart cell imbedded in paraffin sliced about 1/1000 thinner than tissue on a slide you'll feel the same too.

I worked in a histology lab some years ago with chinese grad student.
"what what what's in this box"
"blot western"
"I want to graduate in less than 5 years"

Even with months of graveyard shifts in the army, all I need is to think back to those days and I'm so glad I'm not in that bioscience/bioengineering basement lab.

I am proud to say that I managed to not bleed while using the cryomicrotome when I was an intern.
