Do NOT miss Extreme Home Makeover TONIGHT

I saw a preview. You'll be wanting some tissues for this one. On top of everything, they throw the couple a wedding. Damn.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition
SUNDAY 8|7c
SUNDAY, Feb. 20

Zeigler-Hansen Family
...
The team builds a home for a soldier, who was wounded in the 2009 Fort Hood massacre, and his fiance;

The Zeigler Family will be participating in the R2R Texas Challenge, March 28 - Apr. 2

FORT HOOD, Texas -- A Soldier with 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division was surprised with an early Christmas present, Dec. 6, on Fort Hood.

ABC producers with Extreme Makeover Home Edition selected Staff Sgt. Patrick Zeigler, a scout formerly with the squadron, and his fiancé to receive home a makeover.

Zeigler was shot multiple times in the head and body during the Fort Hood shootings last year. Zeigler and his fiancé have spent the time working on his recovery.

The makeover couldn't have come at a better time than now, said Ty Pennington, the head designer on the show.

"I think this is our chance to honor a man that's sacrificed a lot for his country," he said. "It's a miracle he's here today. What they need right now is a sense of security and permanence on the path to recovery and this will really give them that."

Soldiers stood in formation at the 1st Cavalry Division Museum for an awards ceremony to cover up the surprise.

With Zeigler in attendance, two Bradley fighting vehicles roared to a stop near the formation and dropped their ramps to reveal Pennington, Paul DiMeo, rapper Xzibit and special guest Leigh Anne Tuohy.

Soldiers clapped and cheered at the sound of Pennington's voice over a megaphone. The excitement of the crew and troopers spread to a gathering crowd and the recipients.

The designers rushed to Zeigler, who shared a wide smile with his fiancé, to congratulate them on being selected and to talk with them about their experiences over the previous year.

Zeigler and his fiancé talked about the shooting, his extensive recovery and their need for a home to start a family. After the initial surprise, Zeigler, his fiancé and the design team loaded onto the show's bus to take a tour of the build site.

The delight on the faces of everyone there was contagious and by the end of the day, conversations buzzed with excitement over the upcoming events.

Zeigler and his fiancé said they couldn't be more honored to be recognized and thankful for such a gift.

"I'm ready to move out and move in and get started!" Zeigler said. "It's one of those things where I want to push the pause button and enjoy it, but I also can't wait to see the end result."

I just have a problem with stuff like this. Because the network is using the misfortune of others to boost their ratings. Like the freak show many had to watch on American Idol two weeks ago. But if it benefit's the People more power to them.

Well, maybe. But people are either nominated or nominate themselves...so I'm guessing if nominated they could always say no.

I'll bet half of America has been too busy at the mall to even know what happened at Ft. Hood.

I truly hope this experience has benefited them in ways we can't even know.

I believe the need for help is real,, But strongly agree the networks are only in it for the ratings..

I think the selection process certainly is very suspect. I suspect it is based on the current hot topic on the MSM list of must cover news items.. A couple years ago it was NO and hurricane Katrina.

To ME,, Charity is not a nosy process. It should be quiet, subtle, and completed with-out egotistical gloating..

These "charity reality video bites" are blatant in your face ego trips,, with a large profit exposure..

The fact is there are millions of American families that need help.

Making a profit by publicizing a select few,, leaves the others saying WHY NOT ME..

I gotta bet that shortly you will see one of the entitlement X-spurts in court arguing that their client shoulda/coulda/oughta be the next STAR..

You do make some good points JJ_BPK, regarding the selection process. Never know what goes on behind closed doors... I understand the show is really popular and has run for years, I personally think if someone felt the need to sue because of "why not me" it would have happened by now.

I did think it was good of the program (via CVS Pharmacy) to provide $25,000.00 in funds to help other victims of the shooting, and they asked the new Mrs. Zeigler to help them do so.
