How Important was Hitler’s Mufti?
Quote:
How Important was Hitler’s Mufti?
The New York Times reported on Dec. 11 that in the immediate wake of World War II, American intelligence officers adapted very quickly to the new reality that Communism was the enemy--perhaps a little too quickly, turning a blind eye to the war crimes of Germans and collaborators who promised to help the U.S. resist Stalin's attempt to take over postwar Europe:
With the Soviet Union muscling in on Eastern Europe, "settling scores with Germans or German collaborators seemed less pressing; in some cases, it even appeared counterproductive," said a government report published Friday by the National Archives.
Of course, it's appalling that enablers or perpetrators of genocidal violence against civilians were able to use America's desperate struggle against Stalinism to escape facing justice. But what's even more galling is the fact that a number of rabid anti-Semites escaped Hitler's Europe to carry on their "war against the Jews" in other countries.
According to the Times, "high-ranking Nazis escaped from Germany to become advisers to anti-Israeli Arab leaders and 'were able to carry on and transmit to others Nazi racial-ideological anti-Semitism.'" Professor Richard Breitman of American University, co-author of the report, said, "And after the war, you have real Nazi war criminals -- Wilhelm Beisner, Franz Rademacher and Alois Brunner -- who were quite influential in Arab countries."
The most prominent and dangerous man to escape the sinking Nazi ship was the grand mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini. Thus far the Times:
In chilling detail, the report also elaborates on the close working relationship between Nazi leaders and the grand mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, who later claimed that he sought refuge in wartime Germany only to avoid arrest by the British.
In fact, the report says, the Muslim leader was paid "an absolute fortune" of 50,000 marks a month (when a German field marshal was making 25,000 marks a year). It also said he energetically recruited Muslims for the SS, the Nazi Party's elite military command, and was promised that he would be installed as the leader of Palestine after German troops drove out the British and exterminated more than 350,000 Jews there.
On Nov. 28, 1941, the authors say, Hitler told Mr. Husseini that the Afrika Corps and German troops deployed from the Caucasus region would liberate Arabs in the Middle East and that "Germany's only objective there would be the destruction of the Jews."
The report details how Mr. Husseini himself was allowed to flee after the war to Syria -- he was in the custody of the French, who did not want to alienate Middle East regimes -- and how high-ranking Nazis escaped from Germany to become advisers to anti-Israeli Arab leaders and "were able to carry on and transmit to others Nazi racial-ideological anti-Semitism."
"You have an actual contract between officials of the Nazi Foreign Ministry with Arab leaders, including Husseini, extending after the war because they saw a cause they believed in," Dr. Breitman said.
...
In October 1945, the report says, the British head of Palestine's Criminal Investigation Division told the assistant American military attaché in Cairo that the mufti might be the only force able to unite the Palestine Arabs and "cool off the Zionists. Of course, we can't do it, but it might not be such a damn bad idea at that."
The emergence of this report should recall our attention to the work of David G. Dalin and John F. Rothmann, Icon of Evil: Hitler's Mufti and the Rise of Radical Islam. In it, the authors patiently trace the connections between German intelligence services and Arab anti-Zionists. They point to "an unbroken chain of terror from Adolf Hitler, Haj Amin al-Husseini, Sayyid Qutb, and Yasser Arafat to Hamas' founder and spiritual leader, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, Sheikh Omar Abd al-Rahman, and Ramzi Yousef, who planned the World Trade Center bombings of 1993, to Osama bin Laden and Mohamed Atta, to Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, the Pakistani Muslim terrorist who planned the kidnapping and murder of U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl, and to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad." The authors point out that Husseini was a cousin of Yassir Arafat, and that he arranged Arafat's first terrorist training at age 17 at the hands of a Nazi commando in Cairo; Arafat never forgot his beloved mentor: According to Palestine Facts, "In August 2002, Arafat gave an interview in which he referred to 'our hero al-Husseini' as a symbol of Palestinian Arab resistance."
Here's where it gets interesting. The Dalin/Rothmann thesis allows for the possibility that it was the introduction of European nationalism and racial anti-Semitism that poisoned the relations between Zionist founders and their Arab neighbors. Indeed, Eretzyisroel.org presents an article by Shaykh Prof. Abdul Hadi Palazzi--that rare thing, a pro-Zionist imam living in Italy--who writes of Husseini:
Using Islam as a basis for preventing Arabs from recognizing any sovereign right of Jews over the Land of Israel is new. Such beliefs are not found in classical Islamic sources. Concluding that anti-Zionism is the logical outgrowth of Islamic faith is wrong. This conclusion represents the false transformation of Islam from a religion into a secularized ideology.
Such a false transformation of Islam was in fact made by the late Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini. He is the one person most responsible, both morally and materially, for the repeated Arab defeats in their conflict with the Jews in Israel. Husseni not only incited Arabs against Jews. He also encouraged the torture and murder of all Arabs who correctly understood that Arab cooperation with Jews was a precious opportunity for the development of the Land of Israel. Husseini ended his woeful life by putting his perverted religious teachings at the service of the evil and pagan Nazis.
One can see how hopeful Israelis might jump at the possibility that anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism are not essential features of Islamic faith, but mere ideological accretions of the 20th century; that the Islamic claim to all of the Holy Land (and indeed, to all of the earth) is not contained in the Qur'an, but is simply the opportunistic fantasy of a shifty, corrupt old imam who died in 1974. If this were true, then negotiations really could resolve the Arab/Israeli conflict. The Israelis could trade land for peace, and once they got the right formula, made the right kind of concessions, the Islamic war against them would cease.
As readers of this site, and the works of Bat Ye'or and Robert Spencer (among many others) know, this is mere wishful thinking. Indeed, readers of the Muslim site Islamonline know better. The antipathy against Jews is deeply rooted in Islam, and it isn't going anywhere.
Indeed, things have gotten worse since the founding of the State of Israel, and for this perhaps Husseini deserves some "credit." In past centuries, Muslims were willing to tolerate a Jewish presence in Muslim lands, provided that the Jews submitted to dhimmitude. That ended in 1948, when most Arab states expelled their harmless, tiny Jewish communities. Neither Hamas nor the "moderate" Fatah would be likely to tolerate any Jewish presence in a Muslim-dominated Palestine. For that innovation, we may well have Husseini, and his Nazi sponsors, to thank.

As I understand it, in the wake of the Second World War, we convicted around 5,025 Nazi war criminals and sentenced 500 of them to hang.
We have now been at war against terrorism for nine years, have convicted only a few, and executed none.
Are we serious about this?

Sadly no. That won't happen until there is another mass casualty event here stateside. Too many people are under the delusion that 9/11 was a one time affair and that we're still safe.
As much as I appreciated some of the things Bush did as President, not getting some of these thugs through the process before hanging them will go down as one of his greatest failures. He had some of those animals in custody for 6 years before he left office. Now to make matters worse his successor is starting to let some of them go scott free after a short jail sentence. It's just a matter of time before it bites us in the ass and the response in DC will be an epic game of point the finger and scream.

By reading Amin al-Husseini’s recently revealed sekert love letters, supposedly that explains the 50,000 marks a month - to keep him quiet

1 out of every 4 Gitmo detainees return to the Jihad, roughly 25%

The politicians need to get serious, if they had been killed, the recidivism rate would have been 0%

With this administration, we're likely to see more pardoned than convicted or executed.

It seems Hitler viewed the institution of Jihad, through al-Husseini, as a worthy model of waging a total genocidal war…
