Um, would think that the teachers would recommend possibly... God Forbid... finding an unadulterated copy of a classic novel (or 1200) and reading the damn thing(s)...

Possibly by the time they reach 7th grade they could read books like Johnny Tremaine (pre PC version), the Guns of Nantucket, A Wrinkle in Time, I Robot, the Moon is a Harsh Mistress.... maybe they could just read, and play in the yard....

This Max Fleisher (of the late 40's Superman cartoons fame) movie is the version I enjoyed with my sons until they were old enough to read and understand the entire book - I just watched it again the other night with my youngest son's current girlfriend and her 4 yo daughter. It has not diminished with age.

Richard, Richard, Richard, you tease them with the trailer. Here's the full movie: Max Fleisher's Gulliver's Travels

Richard - that's a classic... as a kid, that and Babes in Toyland were Turkey Day staples. Around Christmas... Babes in Toyland was generally replayed and the whole classic cartoon series (Peanuts, Grinch, Frosty, et al) an Miracle on 34th Street.... and then the day after Christmas was a Godzilla/Frankenstein/Wolfman marathon....

as long as the Christmas reading list had been completed.

And then the trivia "contest" began...

What was the origin of the fight between the Lilliputians and Blefuscudians (and yes...I did have to look up the spellings)?

Egg breaking technique, what else.

Now...upon 'what' is the basis for the highest tax bracket in the novel?

Richard

CLUE: WJC would've been very highly taxed!

The largest tax was levied against those favored the most by the opposite sex...or something like that.

And I had to do some research to find that!

In 1st grade I sent my son back to school with a corrected spelling words list that the teacher had sent home the night prior....I used red ink
