VAS may attempt to gain access to military personnel through close resemblance.....

Veterans Affairs Services (VAS) is Providing Benefit and General Information on VA and Gathering Personal Information on Veterans:

The following information was forwarded by Kevin Secor, VSO Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Quote:
The Veterans Affairs Services (VAS), web address http://www.vaservices.org/us/index.html, may attempt to gain access to military personnel through their close resemblance to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) name and official seal. The VA legal counsel has requested the Department of Defense (DoD) coordinate with military installations, particularly mobilization sites, in an effort to warn DoD personnel that this group is NOT affiliated with or endorsed by the VA in any manner.

VA General Counsel requests any examples of acts by the VAS that violate Chapter 59 of Title 38 US Code, such as VAS employees assisting Veterans in the preparation and presentation of claims for benefits (Point of Contact that the VA is Mr. Michael G. Daugherty, Staff Attorney, Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of General Counsel (022G2).

I just went to their web site. There are a thousand disclaimers on the site about the fact that they are in no way affiliated with the VA or the Gov't. Is there a case of someone being asked for their personal information??
