Senate bill will give DHS control of food supply
Haven't heard much of this before.
Anyone know if there's anything to it?

This topic was a headliner on Infowars months ago and the local paper had an article about the city putting controls on yard gardens, community gardens and local city markets (they are dangerous you know). I would wager big corporations like Tyson, Monsanto, etc will come out big winners if this passes, because mom and pop will not be able to afford the expense required to meet such mandates.
It is not really anything new, our friends in the Government have been clamping down on Mom & Pop farmers for sometime, but in the last year there has been more media attention on the subject....like hassling the Amish for selling un-tainted milk, farm fresh food stores, etc.
Fact is there are not many, maybe any sectors of small business that don't don't have the brown eye of Big Brother looming over them for a big dump.
Sooner or later someone is going to get sick of this crap, so I hope the regulatory agencies are stocking up on body bags.

This makes me think of the below video, which went into effect this year...

While there are a lot of things wrong with it, if you watch the "documentary" entitled Food, Inc. you will see what I call the "corporatization" of farming. Small farmers are being squeezed out, not by an inability to compete, but by government fiat that is unrelated to actual "food safety"!
The corporate masters call the tune in Congress. I think we should "draft" Congress. Make everyone take and pass a "civics" test to qualify for any government benefit. Then, everyone who has passed said test has their name place in the "hopper." Every two years, instead of electing, we "draft" representatives and 1/3 of the senate. Heck, include the president and veep. Supremes, too. *
Couldn't be worse...

I have read this on several exercise-related forums. NOW Foods as an article on their website about it.
If you go to Senate.gov you can see the bill and follow it. It might not be as bad as some imply but it does allow more reaching into one's life;,and the devil is in the details. It was sponsored by Dick Durbin (D) Illinois so that should be enough info right there.
The governement can't even run cash for clunkers and they want to run health care and control the food?
Growing one's own food is the ultimate act of rebellion.
We buy raw milk, cream and eggs from a local farm - they would be a target of this law.

They already are a target. A family dairy in Missouri was ordered by the Missouri Milk Board to destroy 50,000 lbs of cheese in October of this year.
Supposedly this is related to the DHHS Healthy People 2020 Objective FS HP2020–9 which is to increase the number of States that have prohibited sale or distribution of unpasteurized dairy products.

I had seen some references to it in the last few months but nothing recently. A quick read of the summary makes it appear that the only thing they plan to do any differently than they already do is place everything under the direct control of DHS and HHS. It appears to be another behemoth that none of the senators will actually read though, i.e. Obamacare.

They'll probably try to pass it during one of those emergency sessions in the wee hours of the morning. Or, they will piggyback onto a "support our troops bill".
