FOG Book Recollections

1st editions of JC Pollock's Mission: MIA and Crossfire - both HALO missions by ODAs - one into North Vietnam and one into Czechoslovakia.

They were inspirational reading for us back then.

But don't let Waszak know about them or he'll be adding new chapters to his on-going littany of fractured effin' fairy tales.

I have both of those - though not first editions. I also have two or three books by CPT Mark Harrel, an SF ODA CDR with 12th SFGA circa the early '80's, about SF opns. One was called "The Penetrators" (love that title! ), and another was "The Infiltrators" (I think.) Both were entertaining fiction.

I also have a book by Thomas Taylor entitled "A Piece of This Country" set in RVN and about US advisors. I had another of his - "A-18" about an SF team in RVN... but lost it.

Books about SF used to be few and far between "back in the day"! Now is much better. (I hope to get my copy of "The Only Thing Worth Dying For" by the author at the SFA Ch 75 meeting in San Diego this weekend.

the book "New Legions" by MSG Donald Duncan about clandestine missions against the VC/NVA sparked my interest in SF and caused me to consider SF as a occupation.

I think a book of story's would be a great far side .. desk top book for all. FOG stories to have your kids read about.

Heck.. you can do it by ears, WWI, WWII, Vetnam, 80's, 90's, Desert Storm, Etc

I found a copy of 'A-18' on Amazon, and am now re-reading. It is as good as my FOG-clouded memory remembers. I got an autograhed collectible edition for an SF soldier who is dear to my heart.

I re-read Eric Blehm's 'The Only Thing Worth Dying For' in preparation for hearing him speak at the Ch 75 meeting. Excellent book by an excellent young man. He waited until the end of our meeting to speak - listening intently to lonnng introductions by two new members - a SOG vet and a 102 yr old veteran of the 1st Special Service Force (who got up, moved with his walker to the front, and held all spellbound for about 20 minutes).
