Agent Orange/Diabetes claims

As a former DAV NSO and veteran, I believe this is/was the biggest sham the government has ever done......No I did not go to Vietnam (although I was in Jun '73) This is an ailment that is caused by diet more than anything else. The end result will be that eventually the VA will take diabetes off the list and vietnam veterans will lose once again because there are more important issues that the VA could be covering with the ease of proof that the VA has set the bar for in the case of diabetes......just my two cents....No disrepect to those with diabetes, but there are othere issues that should allowed before this one. I have to agree with CSM-H. Diabetes is something that can be controlled thorugh diet and exercise. I am also a VN era vet and did not spend time there. My brother did spend multiple tours in VN and does not have diabetes along with numerous friends. If there is somethings that can document diabetes was directly caused by whatever during the VN period and the person was in that area at the time the potential cause was present then the VA should honor the claim. There are a lot of vets out there that have legiimate claims that need to be honored.

Visiting the VA and having friends on staff has led me to believe that at least 25% of all claims are bogus, possibly as much as 35%.

There are people who would be busted on this board in less than an hour collecting thousands of tax dollars per month, which could be spent on people with real issues. PTSD is another get over scam for most recipients.

One fat bastard I saw at the VA who claims to have liberated Auschwitz and then been a POW held there was not even inducted into the service until Nov 1945. 100% disabled, now he wants the VA to pay for a second scooter to haul his fat ass around, because the other one is too big and bulky.

I agree that diabetes is a condition exacerbated by lifestyle choices, and is treatable. Whether it is partially caused by exposure to dioxins and other chemicals is unclear to me, but it is compensable. I just hope they limit it to people who served in SEA and were exposed. I HATE posers.
