Another Truce!!
I just heard that a truce has been called in Najaf. Will we never learn? I was in RVN for a couple opf the bombing halts and "Talks". I can attest, as I am sure others can as well, that things always got worse.
If you can indulge me this reminds me of another of my stories. I was outside a bar in Munich and a GI and a Turk were arguing. The GI hauled off and knocked the Turk to the ground. Then what do you suppose he did. Instead of finishing the job he did the "honorable" thing and let the Turk up. They continued arguing and the GI grabbed the Turk by the lapels, telling him hoiw he was going to kick his ass. You could see it happening. In slow motion; the Turk's head leaned farther and further back then quickly snapped forward with a head butt which smashed the GI's nose all over his face.

Isn't this a good time for the bad guys to regroup and resupply? They certainly aren't going to quit.

IMO that has always been the case. The result will be more friendly casualties.

That's all the reason I need to see for not quitting.

I say we pull out and nuke em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

10 Points for the "Aliens" reference!
I agree. But then, my idea of an ideal foreign policy would be turning that whole region into a glass floored self-illuminating parking lot extending from Algeria to North Korea.
We could build a Starbucks where Tehran used to be.
Just my opinion, not even worth what you paid for it.

On the eve of the opening of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, the State Department said US soldiers now fighting in Iraq would not be bound by the terms of the truce that calls for all nations in conflict to observe a traditional ceasefire during the Games.

You gotta love the anti-American spin, heh?
The state department said it does not apply - and this reporter tries to make it sound like we are violating an agreement. Exactly what nation are we supposedly remaining in "conflict" with?

This truce is ridiculous.
I'm all for peace when it's possible, and I was even for giving Sadr a chance at doing the right thing. He didn't even try, why should we trust him?

What has he had, like at least four cease fires or truces already to allow him to move forces and supplies around?
I say turn up the fire until we remove him and his base of support. He is an Iranian pawn, regardless, and we cannot tolerate him in an elected position of power.
He is already wanted on a murder warrant, maybe a Dead or Alive poster would help.
Good timing with the main Ayatollah out of the country for medical treatment.

What do you think happens if the demonstrators and al-Sadr's forces intermingle and when engaged leave a lot of the demonstrators dead?
Thanks,
Martin

Demonstrators? You mean people shouting in support of Sadr?
I wouldn't have any problem with it if you mean them.
Also, what do you mean "IF"? These pigs are using the holiest shrines in Shia Islam as firing positions, if they hold their own religion in such contempt, what makes you think they hold any regard at all for "innocent life"?
Such a high minded ideal it is.

No, I don't think they value life highly. What I wonder is if it could escalate into a popular uprising if the Shias see their fellows lying there very dead, or if they will get the message and adjust?
