Shot heard round the world..........
I'm sure many of you heard about Bobby Thompson's, "Shot heard round the world". He died today..... But do any of you know who the pitcher was the threw that ball?

Without "googling" it, I know it's in an episode of M*A*S*H.
Charles (David Ogden Stiers) mentions it.
Gonna have to pull out that episode and watch it.

It's lost in my brain, with tons of other stuff I won't ever remember again.
Meanwhile, the theme to "F Troop" comes to memory instantly:
"The end of the Civil War was near, when quite accidentally...."
What's up with that???????

From the M*A*S*H episode 204, of season 9, A War For All Seasons, as most of the camp is inside the mess hall or post-op, listening to the game being broadcast over the P.A. system, Charles is outside pacing back and forth, cheering on the Dodgers, the announcer states....."That's all for Don Newcombe, in to replace him is Ralph Branca." To which Winchester states...."Yea Branca the game is in the bag !!!!" .....then takes off his ball cap, spits in it, then places it back on his head and begins pacing again.

RF 1,
I was listening to the game on the radio, never thought almost 60 years later I'd be asking it as a trivia question on this forum...............

I didn't hear the game; but growing up in New York, it was part of the collective knowing. Thompson and Branca actually had a bit of a comedy routine together after retiring. I recall seeing them in the Poconos once.
Great trivia Big Teddy!!
