Reversing 'Change'

Interesting initiative from the new British Coalition Government:

Freedom from excessive regulation

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has called on the public to suggest which regulations should be cut to make it simpler to run a business.

Mr Clegg launched Your Freedom on 1 July, an online initiative that calls on the community to suggest and discuss ways to cut bureaucracy.

Your Freedom asks the public to consider three questions:
  • Restoring civil liberties: which current laws would you like to remove or change because they restrict your civil liberties?
  • Cutting business and charity regulations: which regulations do you think should be removed or changed to make running your business or organisation as simple as possible?
  • Repealing unnecessary laws: which offences do you think we should remove or change and why?
...

Update 10am Friday 2 July

We're working to create a more open and less intrusive society. We want to restore Britain’s traditions of freedom and fairness, and free our society of unnecessary laws and regulations – both for individuals and businesses.

This site gives you the chance to suggest how we can do this. Your ideas will inform government policy and some of your proposals could end up making it into bills we bring before Parliament to change the law.

So if there are any laws or regulations you'd like us to do away with, then first, check if there are any similar ideas here already and then add your comments to it and rate it to move it up the list. If it's not here, then add it! And remember - we want you to suggest ideas for removing laws and regulations, rather than ideas for creating them.

We've had an excellent response so far, with over 2,205 ideas, 7,419 comments and 18,000 votes in our first day. It's fantastic that so many of you want to participate - and we apologise if you've had problems viewing pages. We've taken measures to improve the running of the site, and hope that it will run more smoothly now.

Damn, the Brits are getting it! We seem to be going the opposite direction. The Tea Party needs to pick up on this and run with it.

Like the avatar, Brown....I see you are a Scully fan as well??

I agree. We were the ones who initially broke free from the Brits because we wanted more "freedoms and individual liberties". Now we are getting to be under more restrictions than they are....go figure!

Thank you! Yes, she is definitely one of the more engaging and multifaceted female icons.

Ah the irony. Like rdret1 said, somebody needs to pick this up and 'run with it'... fast!

We have quite a ways to go before our civil liberties are anywhere near as restrictive as they are in the UK. Go look them up.

And so it goes...

Thank you. Will take a deeper look. Wouldn't you say though, taking England as an example, that it is worth taking precautionary steps?
