Pentagon: Cut spending on troops
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37028501...n_post/from/ET
Interesting article:
I guess a soldier's start pay is higher than the $571.00 a month less weekly head shaves that I remember.

You mean they're getting more than the $87/mo we were paid as a US* PV1? Where do I sign up?

In '62 I was making $85/mo with three meals a day and housing. Always had money for doing laundry, having a beer and a burger, and bus fare back home. (Oh, how the mighty have fallen! (sigh))
Look up your pay here.

IMHO, what they're getting paid now still ain't near enough. On top of that, their living conditions are usually way below Federal prison standards.

I agree with some of the proposals, especially fewer generals, but what is up with hosing the military on health care.
Does anyone else find it interesting that this current administration has increased spending on every conceivable area of Government except defense which it is cutting.

I think Gates is trying to get out front of it and like you I agree with the fact that we are probably way too rank heavy at the top, but there are better places to go looking to save a few bucks....like welfare for, healthcare for, and incarceration of illegals, then I'd start on welfare in general....but that's just me.

Yep, you got me, Big Teddy. Why is it that I always had money when I was a stupid kid and now that I'm a stupid old fart I don't?
(Wait a second...never mind.)

Big Teddy,
Also $78.00 a month – cigarettes were a $1.00 a carton, and whisky was $2.05 a bottle, and I always had money in my pocket. What an adventure.
