M4 Charging Handle

Greetings all
Im looking for a solid, reliable aftermarket charging handle for my issue M4 for service in the box.

Hoping to find something a little larger to use with gloves. Yes the stock charging handle works ok but I remember from my last tour some guys were using an aftermarket charging handle that they liked very well, and was a little nicer to use with gloves.

Dont want something with a giant appendage to get caught on kit. Hopefully just something a little larger where one would grasp the handle with the nonfiring hand to charge the weapon.

Any input is appreciated-

There is a fine line between making the charging handle easier to access and making it large enough to be in the way. I like the PRI Big Latch installed on a normal carrying handle. If you are going to be shooting with a can on the rifle, or have the extra money, the PRI Gas Buster is the best charging handle available and it already has the Big Latch installed.

PRI Gasbuster, although I've noticed that in the beginning, the bottom of the ears will scrape a little on a Magpul CTR stock. This will shave plastic dust from the stock. Eventually, this will create the proper clearance and it stops doing that. This happened with both of my CTRs. Not sure if this will happen with a mil issue telestock. It clears the LMT Crane stock fine, though.

The gasbuster can be had with a standard latch, or a couple varies of tac latch. They're kinda spendy for a CH, but I like them.

You can also buy just the latch for the CH and swap that out with the one on your issue rifle, but your unit armorer may have himself a fit.

There's also the BCM Gunfighter which is supposed to be really good and allegedly solves the problem of the roll pin that holds the latch in place failing, but I don't have any experience with those. I believe they're made by VLTOR, so I'm sure they're good.

I have installed the new LMT's on all my rifles. They are very nice - easy to work with gloves and I haven't had any snagging issues. In fact, I have an extra one - PM me and I'll send it to you on "long term loan"...

The BCM Gunfighter, from Bravo Company, is a good piece of kit, as well as the PRI Big Latch and Gas Buster I previously suggested.

I bought an LMT MRP a year ago and it came with that charging handle. Seems to work pretty well with gloves and doesnt get hung up on your kit.

I would advise you make sure you can make changes to your issue weapon- our company just got a letter from Division that's making us strip every bit of non-issue gear from our weapons (little impact personally, but there's a long list of 'unauthorized' modifications out). Our armorer said it's because we're turning in a lot of stuff and some high-up officers got miffed at seeing some of the customized M4s, but who knows?
Just trying to save you some cash- Iraq, at least, is pretty slow.

I have been running a Gunfighter for some time now and have had no issues with it catching on my kit -anymore so than a normal latch. I think you will be pleased with your purchase.
