Possible SF Company in AZ

The Arizona National Guard is pursuing the idea of obtaining an SF Company in the near future, more than likely from 19th GP, if they are receptive to the idea and willing to relocate a current company to AZ.

In 1994, when 12th SFG (A) deactivated, there were two teams in Phoenix and a team in Tucson under C/2/12 (CO in San Diego, BN in OK City) and there were approx 40 qualified guys in the state. Unfortunately, most have long since retired or moved on.

The struggle will be, trying to fill the unit with qualified 18 Series Soldiers in a reasonable amount of time.

Right now I am trying to come up with a "guesstimate" of how many currently qualified 18 Series guys may be interested in joining this unit if this works out.
The information will be used mainly in this investigative stage to see how feasible it will be, and make a projection on the timeline it would take to get the unit to a point where it can be operational. Keep in mind this would be 2-3 years (or more) down the road, so this may include guys on AD who have ties to AZ and who may be considering moving here and staying with a NG SF unit after they ETS.

If you are SF qualified, live in or near Arizona, and may be interested in joining this company, please send me a PM. I will provide you updates and keep you in the loop on how it goes.

IMPORTANT: I am not looking for feedback from non SF qualified individuals. There will be a time for that down the road, if and when, AZ gains a company.

I've heard that there will be one company added to each bn, with TX and CA and now AZ trying to man a company.

There's quite a few guys who commute from AZ to our company so it will be interesting how it plays out.

Relocations

Seems like there is some realignment going on across both NG SF Groups.

We found out at 20th Group's GTMS this week that Alabama is losing a company (Aco) to Georgia (which will be good for Aco.) There has also been rumors (yeah I know how the Joe Info Network is for reliability) that South Carolina and Tennessee both want a line company. That said there are alot of guys traveling from Tennessee to Alabama that B/1/20th would possibly lose...

Cric,

Ah... the rumor mill is working at full capacity. I know for a fact that stationing plans were not briefed.

Let me state emphatically that no decision has been made. Nothing finalized. Nothing fully staffed and nothing approved by the DARNG. Oh, and no TAGs have had the chance to weigh in.

There is a list of states that want line companies....if/when the NG grows addiional SF force structure. It is, at the moment, just that... a list on paper. Some have stronger cases t than others.. I will let you speculate as to whom.

I will say this to all those NG SF'ers that read this... DMOSQ does matter. If you think that recruiting/retention is someone else's business... well, think again. If you look to your left and right and don't see teams full of qualified guys..weell then you need to get busy....or not. YMMV.

Bottom Line Last... Don't be surprised when there is reallignment.. But don't assume, as nothing is finalized yet. Want to keep your units? Start recruiting and getting guys through the Q or off of AD to fill your units.

The idea/proposal of a BN was even juggled around in SC with the JFHQ and FMO but it came down to infrastructure and support and the state cannot do it at this time. The idea was thrown out with a hopefully date of FY2014 but right now it is a dead duck, that is unless it becomes 100% federally funded and the State does not have to match any funds. As most NG guys quickly learn: unless the State has the money to match Federal funds: it aint happening

AZ Safe???

Anyone thinking of moving family and kids to AZ needs to look at the news. Lots of drug related stuff going on to well north of Phoenix.
