FOG new uniform question
I was watching a game show the other night and an E5 was a contestant. He was wearing the new blue ASU.
I read the new regs and other than the the CSIB, am I correct in assuming that there is no unit designation on the uniform? A trooper from the 13th Latrine Maintenance Bn. would be indistinguishable from one from the 1st Cav?
So my box full of colored shoulder patches will become very valuable as collectors items?

I am not sure, but I think you are right. But, I can tell you that at COL Howard's funeral, there were a significant number of MACV and/or SOG warriors who I heard comment how wearing a Green Beret with the new "Class A's" JUST DID NOT LOOK RIGHT!!! And a young 5th SFG (A) warrior looked over and nodded his head "YES!!!"

Utah Bob,
You're correct in your assumption. In deciding to further make all soldiers the same (much like the black beret), the Army has stripped the SSI. The CSIB has been added to the front, along with tabs such as Ranger, Sapper, SF, etc.. IMHO, more clutter and bling up front instead of leaving well-enough alone.
Casually speaking with hundreds of soldiers about it since its inception, I have yet to find someone who is happy with this idea. YMMV

Reminds me of the time I was passing through the Atlanta airport and encountered a group of kay-dets from one of those ersatz military academies.

If it makes you feel better, the AF ABUs are the same, no unit patches. We sure don't want to enhance unit morale by doing something as simple as this do we????

As my mom used to say, two wrongs don't make a right.

I never understood why the AF did away with SSI. I guess they didn't want to look like the Army after they split.
of course the Marines have no SSI on their blues either. I guess I'm just too much of a dinosaur to think of an army dress uniform with no shoulder patch is a good thing.
I've read the threads regarding the change and no one seems to know what logic prompted it.
I guess it's not a huge deal seeing as how the dress uniform doesn't seem to be worn much anymore (and if that's the case, one wonders what prompted the change?)
Being a civilian I have no dog in the fight. I do still have my old Greens and even the dress blues from mi youth. The greens will be my burial duds.
As you can see, I'm shocked I still have em.

I commission in a few months, I just bought my ASU's.
I'm brand new to the game, but to me, Class A's with bloused jump boots rivaled the Marine's dress blues.

Rivaled??? I am NOT unbiased in this, but... Class A's with bloused jump boots and a green beret WAS the best dress uniform ever. (The only uniform that came close was TW's with same!) Marine dress blues are great - for the doorman at the Hyatt!

Sir, I am so green that I did not even know what TW's were until I googled them.
