No Fan of Myne......
From the 1st SFG PAO, I took out his sigline for obvious reasons. I am no fan of Facebook but to those of you who are.........
Quote:
ALCON,
I just received a message from the sergeant major in charge of DA public affairs at the Pentagon. He passes on a word of caution, about the following Facebook fan page: Let's "Find 1,000,000 Supporters For The U.S. Army," 136,577 members as of today.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi....3710564385..1
This facebook fan page has the Army logo and info contact points to www.Army.mil website. In the opinion of senior leaders at DoD Public Affairs, it's being used as a propaganda website for the Islamic Jihad. DoD is continuing to look at this site.
It looks legit, but you really need to check out the videos. The logo looks real, but our trademark is removed. There are good and bad postings on the page and seems to have comments from new recruits soon to ship out to boot camp. The wall seems to appear balanced and the photos aren't that concerning. What DA has learned is that once you become a member, you don't get the normal postings to your Facebook e-mail updates. You have to visit the site to see the updates. That's a concern.
What also troubles DA about the site are the videos posted.
You really need to check out the page and in my opinion get out of the site. You need to view the videos in the lower left side of the page.
FACTS ABOUT US MILITARY [HQ]--is a take from 1986 movie Platoon and modern day Iraq...showing the worst scenes from the movie and comparing actions ongoing in Iraq today. Appears to be a darn good professionally edited video of scenes from the movie Platoon and the current battlefield which are not very flattering to U.S. Army or Soldiers and Marines.
US Army Operation Iraqi Freedom & Operation Enduring Freedom--starts out looking through night vision goggles, Soldiers in a house, voice over seems drunk what appears Soldiers raping a women while shots are fired and another person enters the rooms and states, "I Killed them all. I Fxxxxxx killed them all." Another scene shows, Marines or Soldiers padding down a woman and little girl.....
MESSAGE FROM RESISTANCE TO THE WORLD -- is a communiqué from media platoon of the Islamic jihad army ...10 DEC 2004.
That's just the first three videos and there are 123 of them.
You can view the videos without becoming a fan. The site does more harm than good. There is no good when the videos appear to be anti-American and anti all things we stand for. The hosts of this site are crafty at what and how they use our own Soldier-posted videos to support their cause under a pseudo site for the good. Out of the 5 videos I screened this morning, not one was favorable towards America, Soldiers or U.S. Army. To me they violate our Core Values.
I would be very careful if you become a fan of pages such as these in the future because when you go for your next security clearance, and you are ask the question, have you ever been affiliated or member of an association that wants to overthrow the U.S. Government? What do you say after viewing these videos and you are a fan? Social media has opened a whole new arena of concerns.
Leaders, please discuss this with your Soldiers since not all check their work e-mail. The best way to fight this from your foxhole is to be educated about this and ensure you do not support it. Also, please ensure your Soldiers and their Families understand how public affairs can assist them if they are posting anything online or in the media.
Respectfully,
|

Interesting changes on that page today. New Admin, videos and photos gone...

From the new admin:

Mike Lavigne-\: Videos of jihadists attacking and killing our service members - gone. Photos encouraging attacks on our troops - gone. Members who post these materials and practice hate speech in this group - gone. No warnings - you post something like that - you're gone. Hoooah

All the videos, photos and comments by Jihadis are gone and won't be back. I suspect the site had been hacked at one point.

The ability for anyone with 1/2 a brain to access public areas of both the physical and spacial worlds within the internet is unlimited.

What I've always been suspect of are some groups or organizations that ask you for your Soldier's (Marine, Sailor etc) name and info to "honor" them... Yeah, not so much.

Once again I am glad not to use Facebook, Myspace, or any of those other Social networking sites. Honestly I still can't see the appeal. Maybe some people are inherent attention-wh*res?

A farm? I indeed do not own a farm. Darn cows smell too much anyways.
If I wanted to play games on the internet so badly there are a few hundred sites out there that I can play on without signing up to use them. But who has time for games when you're doing PT?
