Col.Howard's Memorial at Bragg

I hope its ok for me to post this .

I just returned from the memorial .
Granted ,I haven't been many places ,or done many things in my life ,but today was one of the most humbling,and amazing experiences of my life .Not only did I get the chance to show my respects to an amazing man whom I can't say enough about ,he literally is outstanding .I got to meet not 1 but 2 Medal Of Honor Recipients. I was in awe . It was a beautiful tribute to a wonderful man .
I just wanted to share <3

Your posts are always welcomed, I'm gald you started the thread. I wanted to attend, but started a new job preventing me from traveling to the memorial. I thank you for your thoughts. I've heard from others who have called me since the service today, telling me similar news.

I understand it was not a large crowd, is that correct?

Not as large as I expected honestly .I was towards the front ,so I didn't turn around as not to be rude . It seemed most pews had at least 3 or 4 ppl .
I expected it to be packed tho

I understand there are a bunch traveling to DC. No host social in Crystal City Sun night. Official ceremony at Arlington is at 1100 on Mon.

I really really wanted to make it to D.C ,but its not an option with 2 kids in school ,and the hubby gone for work

I don't think so.

The CG, two chaplains, Lowell Stevens, and SGT Howard spoke. John Plaster's article was one of the handouts, complete with pictures.

Turnout was poor, for America's most highly decorated soldier, it was abysmal.

Weather was beautiful. Ceremony was well done.

The last time I was in the Chapel was for my son's Memorial. I came "home" in large part to be there for OUR family as so many were there for me at Chris' Memorial. But, I must admit, I had very mixed emotions going into the Chapel again. My most heart felt thanks to The Reaper for being my shield today as he has been so many times before - Thank you, my brother!

But my thoughts quickly turned to awe as I listened to the amazing acts of valor, courage and bravery of a true American hero! All of the speakers were eloquent - and I was so very impressed with SGT Robert Howard, Jr - COL Howard's son that is currently in the Q course. His words and love for his dad were inspirational to me and I am sure to many others in the very small group that gathered to pay tribute to this amazing warrior and man.

There were three other Medal of Honor receipients that I saw there as well as several warriors that served with COL Howard. It was a great honor for me to be in there presence, and to be able to thank them for their service and for loving their brothers enough to do what they did without hesitation - for the men on their right and their left.

I was very fortunate to have been part of this historic event - I wish more could have shared it with us.

COL - you will be met by some great warriors who have crossed over before you. Give them a hug for me and tell my son I will see him soon!

Hey to all, I was there yesterday and the turn out was much larger. The chapel wasn't quit full but pretty close. The number of MoH recipients there was awesome. The Vice Chief of Staff (4 Star) SMA, LTG MUllholland, MG Repass a bunch of CSM's and soldiers retired and in uniform.

I did not make it to grave side as the procession was quit long, I think folks may have actually been sitting in their cars to go to the grave site. I had the opportunity to train, airborne and Ranger schools where then SFC Howard and then MAJ Howard was.....what a inspiration as an instructor and mentor. I am proud to have known him. Rest in Peace Col Howard, RLTW!! CSM-H

A.M. Great to meet you in person.

Anyone in the DC area, you missed a very special event if you were not in attendance. Considering the total number of living MOH recipients, to have 20 in attendance is a true testament to Col Howard.

Thanks, BuffaloBob for sharing those amazing pictures! I was standing in the back of the gathering with Warrior Mentor and Ambush Master, and it was truly a phenomenal sight, something I doubt I will ever witness again. I was honored to be among TRUE American HEROES - thank you to ALL who were there for your service, your professionalism and your sacrifice.
