Without actuality playing with one,, I inclined to think properly constructed Hesco barriers will be 5% the cost, more transportable, and IF PROPERLY MAINTAINED, just as good...

And, at close range,, the concussion of the demo is going to cause TBI havoc with any of these solutions, immaterial to the fact that there is penetration or not,, be it IED, RPG, Grenade, or satchel charge...

My $00.0002

PS: Can you jump it in your ruck??

I'm with JJ - Hesco barriers and sandbags filled with locally procured organic barrier material at a fraction the cost - new isn't always better.

Pic is NATO Camp Marmel, Masar-e Sharif.

And so it goes...

The new barriers are interesting, true, but the devil is in the details. There's a matter initial cost and life cycle costs of the barriers, storage, transportation to/in theater, who's responsible for repair and maintenance?, spare parts?, who erects the things?, engineers or troops?, what kind of training will they need IOT know how to do this?, what about various climates (snow, temp variations, humidity, etc)?, easy to erect maybe, but for who?

Before the system's fielded let the soldiers get their hands on it for a while and see what they find. Just an opinion...

FYI - the pic is of one of the interior camps - the Norwegian compound - you can see the exterior perimeter and the large clear area surrounding the entire camp in the distance.

Pic was 5/2006 - the Europeans certainly enjoy their 'sun time' - I've seen pics of SS soldiers lying in their underwear on berms along the Ostfront getting their sun time while their comrades stand watch in full combat gear.

Charley isn't there.

Protect the force based on the enemy threat.

In this case, it isn't sappers or a ground force attack.

It is rockets, mortars, VBIEDs, and IEDs. The HESCOs are good for that.

Thanks....

The Norweigians (Telemark Battalion) are GTG. Meat-eaters serving under a restrictive ISAF ROE/Commander. Very professional.

Any unit that brings German Shepherd Dogs and has no issues with their use as "squirter control" is OK in my book.
