Anyone know anything about Special Operations Warrior Foundation?
Anyone know anything about Special Operations Warrior Foundation besides what Charity Navigator publishes?
Charity Navigator is usually my go-to place about gift-giving decisions. However, given the purpose of this forum, I thought I'd ask for additional information.

It is a great cause to donate to regardless.

For those who decide to donate, please use the Warrior Foundation's page:
http://www.specialops.org/?page=Make_A_Donation
Why?
First Giving takes a 7% cut of the donation before it gets to the charity.

While on the subject of charities for veterans, another post from TS worth reading is:
Study Faults Charities for Veterans
Unbelievable what a rip off so many of the charities are, even some of the big named ones that you just assume are worthy of donations.
If anyone in the know could provide an update on the MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEART it would be great to know if anything has changed.

I only support one charity and it is the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Part of the proceeds from the sale of all bullet pens and 50% of the proceeds from The Making of OUR Warrior go to the SOWF!
In addition to providing ALL college expenses for the children of our fallen Special Operations Warriors, they are NOW providing IMMEDIATE support to the families of our Wounded Warriors! If my son had been wounded today, TOMORROW I would receive a significant check so I could fly to be by his side as soon as he got out of the theater!!! That is a tremendous comfort to the families of the wounded, and I know of no other organization that is providing that to the families of our troops.
Some people have told me that the fallen's SGLI should be more than enough to provide a college education to their children. But for so MANY of our fallen Warriors, their children are very young - their SGLI is needed for them and their families while they are growing up. Knowing that the Special Operations Warrior Foundation WILL be there when those young children are finally ready for college is a TREMENDOUS comfort for those families that have given and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
I do, and will continue to do ALL I can to help support the Special Operations Warrior Foundation! I have been honored to get to know so many of the amazing people that run that organization like a finely tuned machine, and I encourage anyone on ps.com to support the SOWF.
Please feel free to PM me if you would like any additional intel.

Small World...
I was wounded and evac'ed from theater recently, and the Spec Ops Warrior Foundation sent me a check to cover my and my family's expenses while I was in the hospital and recuperating. All they asked in return was for me to fill out and return a one-page QC questionaire, basically asking how they did and if there was anything else they could have done for me. I don't have any info on how efficient they are, ie what percentage of each donation actually makes it to the wounded soldier, but it was a greatly appreciated helping hand!

My initial thoughts:
1. Have cool guy hats made for X dollars
2. Sell cool guy hats for X+ dollars
3. Net proceeds go to the foundation
