2010 State of the Union Address

IMO, the president is delivering a speech worthy of comparison to Franklin Pierce's fourth state of union address that he sent to congress in 1856 <<LINK>>.

Evidenced by their sporadic and uncertain applause, the Democrats in the audience (other than Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Biden, who are giddy) seem as skeptical as the Republicans across the aisle.

Will take your word for it Sigaba! As The History Channel is currently showing a MQ special about "Giant Pythons in America."

Maybe the big O is recording it on VHS for later viewing???

I started watching, but I gagged so badly I threw up in my mouth. Changed the channel to watch Meteorite Men instead.

All combat troops out of Iraq by August? Wow.

Among my issues with this president is that he wants it both ways. The speech he just delivered offered numerous examples of this dynamic.
  • He wants politicians to rise above partisanship, but never turns down an opportunity to take a jab at Republicans.
  • He wants to hold those who "game the system" accountable when it is an established fact that his presidential campaign sought to do just that.
  • He presumes to lecture congress on how it should to its job and yet talks about the Constitution and separation of powers.
  • He wants to be known as a great speaker and hard worker and then delivers a terrible speech that displays a lack of critical editing and clearly needed more rehearsal.

I made the mistake of having supper to this. whatever one would care to call it.

The word Bullsh*t came to my mouth more than once.

The Republican response is great!

I don't understand how he can propose fiscal conservation and at the same time urge congress to quickly pass another stimulus plan. Furthermore, how can he freeze all government spending in 2011 outside of those he mentioned, but at the same time talk about new programs that don't seem to fit under any of said categories?

FWIW, I noticed those same contradictions--as did those who (politely) scoffed at him when he gave himself yet more wiggle room. The freeze won't go into effect until next year. Plenty of time to spend until then.

Obama's freeze is a horribly callous joke. After increasing the eligible areas by double digits, he now promises a freeze them. That just establishes the new base line at an unconscionable high mark.

It's like an alcoholic increases his alcohol consumption by 25% and when confronted by his family graciously agrees to freeze it at the current rate of consumption.

What's with that?

But not till next year.

Nothing pertinent to add here. I agree with most of what has been said...

But, WOW, Pelosi has GIGANTIC hands. Like, freakishly large... She looked like she was clapping with fins!

I KNEW she wasn't from this planet...

Has anyone told Buck this thing might be over before he gets to a team?

We may need him back here in the USA more.
