Craig's List, militarybyowner.com, local paper, real estate agents, rental agents and guys in the unit.
You state they are newly weds. Kids? School age? Pets? Lots of furniture?
If it's only the two of them they could get an appartment for a while and "feel out" the local area. Since she will be "home" more than he will it's better to make her the happy one.
As an example of a simple search at militarybyowner

Pete, Thanks, Everything you said is right on. Have a few more days to look before reporting and townhouse is definitely an option they have thought of. I have said to them what you said, rent townhouse for now and keep looking. Just married, no kids, some furniture ( not much). She has a job waiting for her in Colorado Spriongs and will stay there while he goes who knows where. Yes, also an apartment or townhouse would make things much easier forher when he is not around. thanks again, Lynben
