Recommendations for a trip to.....

....Mid-South Institute of Defensive Shooting.

Must haves, good eats and avoid at all costs please.

Heading down in a little over a week.

Yahoo local doesn't fit the bill, experience is a must!! I know you're lurking in the shadows you QP's.

PM's welcome.

Any other recommendations about the locale is good to go as well.

Thanks

Hmm it has been a while since I went, but I seem to remember when we showed up on day 1 the honcho there handed us some free passes for a particular club in some big town that...started with an M I think. I think that *cough some of the guys visited it a time or two. I seem to recall stories of a particular contest held there hmmm...maybe it was Friday night that was the stuff legends are made of....or so I was told or something. They won't let you miss it, no worries.

Take sunscreen, knee and elbow pads and if you haven't already, start getting your fingers calloused up for loading magazines. hehe A nice digital camera is a must...put that 18F to work. You are going to learn a lot, hone your skills, get totally smoked every day, build a ton of confidence within the team, and have a super super time. It's worth every penny and then some.

Here's me and my team there in 04. I showed up as the new TS with the concept for the trip already pending from the previous TS (love JB!). We did Griffon Group and Midsouth back-to-back in one big loop road trip from Fayetteville. Someone had a magnetic bumper sticker that said "I Love Gay Porn" that got put on someone's bumper at every gass/piss/chow stop. It got a lot of dirty looks rolling through the south, almost got us in a couple fights. Found some kickass bars, met some awesome people...ah good SF road trip.

Oh and take a nice framed photo of your team or a cool momento or something for them to hang on their wall. You are going to love those guys and wish you had something to give back if you don't, trust me!

Good on you for getting to go! I am SO JEALOUS!

Be safe & have fun!

Troops in the Q Course---don't read this post. Go study your Ranger handbook, and do some PT. When your team sergeant is not kicking your a@# a year from now, you'll thank me.

Beale street is a ball. The Rendevous BBQ restaurant is a must (good dry rub, neat atmosphere, and it seems like there was a pretty cool gun collection on the wall, but Beale street was a looooong night).

Also, in the same town, is a place called the Platinum club. Damned if I can remember how to get there, or how we got back to Mid-South, but had a really good time. Spent a lot of money. Proclaimed my love for >1 female.

Last recommendation---don't go to said Platinum club the night before a stress shoot. Bad idea. Bad, bad idea. Its amazing how loud M-4s and M-9s are with a headache, and shooting with "the shakes" is not advisable.

Godspeed

I was afraid to say the "P" word for fear...oh nevermind. I had so much fun there I forgot all about Beale St during Jazzfest and the good places to grub. I do recall the scenery at the Hooters near our hotel was a little better than that at the Hooters in Co Springs, but not much.
