Wink Merry Christmas Story.............

After being injured and spending six weeks in recovery, Private James Weaver was going home to his young wife, and to the son he had yet to meet. If all went as planned, he could be home by Christmas!

But on the day he was due to arrive, the weather turned nasty. A dangerous storm with blinding snow was punishing the region where his military transport would land. And just outside the airfield, the pilot was informed by the tower that the landing would not be possible.

The experienced pilots were persistent. They radioed back and explained the significance of their mission and that they would like to give it a try, at least. They would pull the plane up if they could not find the runway.

The controller told the pilots to stand by while he spoke to his superior. And after several minutes of radio silence, the controller came back saying, "The tower says your mission's a go."

The pilots took every possible precaution. The strong winds made the flight choppy, but they persisted. And as they prepared for approach, the pilot radioed the tower to double check coordinates, and to ask which of the two runways to use.

The controller provided the coordinates and added, "As for the runway, if I were you, I'd use the one I could see! Follow the coordinates and look for the lights!"

The wind and snow made the final approach one of the roughest the pilots had ever known. Both men were searching for any signs of light when the ragged, but discernible, pattern of a runway slowly emerged in front of them. It took some maneuvering but they finally brought the plane to a stop.

It was only then the pilots could fully appreciate the source of their light. Every type of military vehicle imaginable--transport vehicles, buses, trucks, jeeps, emergency vehicles, as well as some cars--had lined up side-by-side to shine their headlights on the runway.

The pilots were amazed at the miracle that this small military community had accomplished for the young soldier. "Well done, tower!" the pilot radioed.

And the controller replied, "The tower wishes Private James, a very Merry Christmas and a happy new life!"

Merry Christmas!

Wishing a Merry Christmas to all, and a special prayer to all our soldiers that are serving proudly and can't be with their families for the holidays.

Teddy et al,

It's a Christmas story - don't know if it's true or not - don't care - it makes a great story for the holiday season - we were at midnight mass for communion, a candlelight service, and another great Christmas story - Merry Christmas.

Richard
