Exclamation 8 SHOT IN ORLANDO!

http://www.wesh.com/cnn-news/21541263/detail.html

ORLANDO, Fla. -- At least eight people were shot inside a downtown Orlando high-rise Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to Gateway Center at 1000 Legion Place around 11:30 a.m. The building is near Lake Ivanhoe.

All patients have been taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. At least four of the eight patients are serious trauma cases.

Dispatchers with the Orlando Fire Department said a shooting with multiple victims was reported on the fourth floor.

At least six ambulances and dozens of police cars and fire engines have arrived at the scene.

Orlando Fire Department spokeswoman Vicky Robles said a shooter has not been taken into custody.

"We don't know who they are," Robles said.

WESH 2 News reporter Greg Fox said gurneys are being wheeled toward the building. However, some rescue personnel may be waiting for clearance from authorities that the scene has been secured.

Cameras in downtown Orlando showed authorities closing some streets around the center.

Gateway Center is a 16-story office building that was built in 1999.

Interstate 4 eastbound has been shut down while police converge on the area.

Former Employee?

The story mentioned a former employee who hadn't worked there in a year entering the building.

A year is a long time to wait in order to "go postal".

Suspect in Orlando shooting identified as Jason Rodriguez, 40

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/orl-j...,2152879.story

Quote:
Orlando Police Department spokeswoman Barbara Jones identified the suspect shooter as Jason Rodriguez, 40.

He's believed to be a former employee of Reynolds Smith & Hills, an architectural engineering firm, located at the eight floor of the 1000 Legion's Place.

Police said he is believed to be wearing a light blue polo shirt and jeans. He is in a 2002 silver Nissan SUV with Florida license plate. The number is: D119UX.

Rodriguez was laid off about a year and half ago from his job at RS&H where he did architectural work, said Renato Gonzalez, a manager in the firm's DeLand office. The layoff was part of firm cutbacks.

Agreed!!

Times being what they are, there are a lot of angry folks out there. Not an excuse, but violence is generally a response to something.

My $.02.

These people should be denied their 15 minutes and their names stricken from any news reports.

It happened about 10 minutes from where i teach. The school that is closer was on lock down, along with interstate 4 near downtown, but from there south towards Disney, nothing. Our school didn't mention anything of it, nor should they have.

Things were congested pretty badly all day yesterday. I also happened to hear that the DOD was controlling certain aspects of the search while it was going on?

I agree with the reaper. Did you see they even gave this guy a perp walk with the media asking him question and him replying. The media needs to be more responsible.

Concur.
Media are culpable for their self-serving actions.

Malcolm Gladwell addresses this sort of thing in his book The Tipping Point.
Rampage killing is just the narcissistic American version of the Micronesian suicide epidemic.
