Democrats unveil government-run health plan
Phoenix Business Journal - by Mike Sunnucks
U.S. House Democrats unveiled a health care plan Tuesday that creates a government-run health system that will operate in addition to private insurance.
The House plan imposes a 5.4 percent surtax on millionaires to help pay for the national system. Previous plans had looked at a 3 percent surtax on those making $1 million a year or more.
The Democrats’ plan would put an extra 1 percent tax on those making $350,000 to $500,000 annually and a 1.5 percent wealth tax on those making $500,000 up to $1 million.
The surtax would be on top of existing federal income tax rates.
