Let's Talk Cigar's

Durring lengthy deployment's cigar's happen to be very popular for many soldiers so I wanted to start up the subject and see what everyone else's favorite cigar's are.
My personal favorite and a very popular cigar in my circle of friend's is ACID ONE by Drew Estate.

Punch Rare Corojo and Casa Magna. I think the Casa Magna was Cigar Aficionado's top scored cigar either this year or last year.

I have heard to much of both I will have to give in and try them out.

When I did smoke....

Hemingway by Arturo Fuentes...pretty much anything Fuente. Made in the Dominican Republic.

The hand rolled ones from this small shop in Ybor City, Fla. They were small like cigarettes had a mellow taste but smelled stinky as my dtr said.

The Newmans out of Tampa fla are the sole distributors of Fuentes.. Went to high school with Bobby.

For me, it wasn't so much about the actual cigars as it was the company I smoked them with.

My wife bought me a cigar dossier as a gift, back when the cigar surge was at its peak. You're supposed to paste the labels in it and write about how the cigar burned, what you had eaten, etc. I decided it was much more meaningful to me to write about where I was and who gave me the cigar, smoked with me, the situation, etc.

Due to the unique circumstances to which I have been exposed, I developed quite the colorful dossier, indeed. My wife read through it, saying I just HAD to write a book about it. I told her those things just can't be written about. She finally understood and settled on having it as a coffee table item for friends and family to read.

If you travel the globe, keeping Hadji in check, I highly recommend this method of logging your cigar experiences. It's proven a colorful and valuable document for me. I trust yours can be too.

2. I love pipe tobacco and great pipes.

3. I love cigarettes.

Somehow they all devolve to item number 3. Name, brand and cost matter not. All roads lead to Marlboro, and that is just way too expensive for me!

My parents never smoked.. That might be why I do. Feel lucky you need not spend money on bad habbits. Not to say I dont love being that Chewer / Cigar smoker.

For me it was unfiltered pall malls/camels/picayunes and a few other brands including rolling my own with pipe tobacco. I had to quit. My lungs came up and slapped me in the face one day as I hacked them up..

I still love going into pipe shops, lifting the lids on the jars to deeply inhale the scent. or walking in the cigar rooms to smell the mixed scents.. lovely smells.
Was driving through easter NC a couple of weeks back admiring the nicely growning tobacco. Coffee bean jars are another favorite ...

My grandfather smoked cigarettes and pipes. I have his meerschams still.. the naked lady, my grams said, was obscene. Nicely mellowed in all the right spots. I admired that one in particular, even as a small girl. He chewed red man when he hunted.. I was about 7 or 8 out bird hunting with him, when I asked for a taste. He didn't hesitate to cut me a plug. It was the first and last time.. that stuff is just plain nasty.. My mom considered him a bad influence on me.. he also got caught putting bourbon in my baby bottle and letting me have sips of his bourbon laced coffee. I think he found it vastly amusing to defy her dictums and to indulge my whims.

Hated cigars! As a yungun, got deathly sick after smoking a Parodi De Nobili. Wish the same thing would have happened after my first Chesterfield, at age 12.

When I quit smoking I was up to 3 packs of Marlboro Lites a day.

Glad I quit. 3 stents will make you starkly aware of the results of smoking. Do I miss the smell and taste of cigarettes and pipe tobacco. Hell, yes.

Camachos and other full bodied cigars.
Flor de Oliva's are fairly full bodied and quite reasonable at about $2.00 a stick.
Just tried a "TABAC" from Drew estates, nice coffee/cocoa flavor.

I'm a big fan of the Hemmingway line from A. Fuente. But for my special occasion cigars it is the Monte Cristo Platinum Vintage 1999 cigars that I reach for.

Anything Fuente, favorites are Opus X. Also love the Montecristo white label
