Flat tires blamed on mother, cops, Flats

A Boulder man says he slashed tires on at least 46 vehicles to relieve his anxieties.

A man who admits he slashed the tires on at least 46 vehicles in Boulder blames his mom, speeding police cars, radiation from Rocky Flats and being forced to wear braces on his teeth.

Boulder police arrested Alexander Kabelis, 31, Thursday night, after he slashed a tire on a police Suburban parked outside a police substation on University Hill.

Kabelis was arrested after Officer Bryan Parch saw him crouching near the Suburban and heard one of the tires hissing loudly.

Boulder Police Department spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said Kabelis admitted puncturing the tires of nine police and sheriff's vehicles and 37 other cars in Boulder, causing $12,936 in damage.

The tire slashings began April 24, but escalated earlier this week, Huntley said.

In a series of interviews with Parch, Kabelis voiced frustration with his place in life and described how slashing tires helped relieve his anxiety.

He told Parch he targeted the police Suburban because he "was frustrated with the current state of his relationship to his mother and that he was also angry for having his driver's license taken from him by law enforcement several years ago."

Parch said he asked Kabelis why someone matching Kabelis' description was captured on videotape slashing tires at the police station and Boulder County Jail. "Alex replied, 'Maybe 'cause it was me.' "

Kabelis told police he typically slashed tires after he was "buzzed" by police vehicles whizzing past him on the street.

Kabelis also told investigators that his desire to slash tires may stem from wearing braces in the late 1990s "or the radiation poisoning he suffered as a result of his proximity to the Rocky Flats nuclear production facility .

Police found a black-handled steak knife in Kabelis' pocket. He was booked into jail on multiple charges of criminal mischief and carrying a concealed weapon. He is being held in lieu of $6,500 bond.

I'm afraid to take my tin foil hat off anymore. I don't know what would happen if I did.

I knew that all my outbursts in public making an ass of myself weren't my own fault. It was that darned o zone and the holes in it letting too much UV rays in.
