Hawaiian Senate Passes Bill to Create 'Islam Day'
What a proud day for Hawaii.

Hawaii Lawmakers Pass Bill to Create 'Islam Day'
Wednesday, May 06, 2009
HONOLULU -- Hawaii's state Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill Wednesday to celebrate "Islam Day" -- over the objections of a few lawmakers who said they didn't want to honor a religion connected to Sept. 11, 2001.
The Senate's two Republicans argued that a minority of Islamic extremists have killed many innocents in terrorist attacks.
"I recall radical Islamists around the world cheering the horrors of 9/11. That is the day all civilized people of all religions should remember," said Republican Sen. Fred Hemmings to the applause of more than 100 people gathered in the Senate to oppose a separate issue -- same-sex civil unions.
The resolution to proclaim Sept. 24, 2009, as Islam Day passed the Senate on a 22-3 vote. It had previously passed the House and now goes to Republican Gov. Linda Lingle.
The bill seeks to recognize "the rich religious, scientific, cultural and artistic contributions" that Islam and the Islamic world have made. It does not call for any spending or organized celebration of Islam Day.
"We are a state of tolerance. We understand that people have different beliefs," said Sen. Will Espero, a Democrat. "We may not all agree on every single item and issue out there, but to say and highlight the negativity of the Islamic people is an insult to the majority" of believers "who are good law-abiding citizens of the world."
But Republican Sen. Sam Slom argued that the United States has become too sympathetic toward Islamic extremists.
"I don't think there's any country in the history of the world that has been more tolerant than the United States of America, and because of that tolerance, we've looked the other way a lot of times, and many thousands of our citizens have been killed by terrorists," said Slom, a Republican.
The lone Democrat voting against the bill opposed it on church-state separation fears.

I don't even understand this. I'm mean most democrats are going to protest if there is a manger scene at the local fire station during the Christmas holidays. Yet here they are voting for Islam day. How does one celebrate Islam day?

You cut off the head of the nearest Jew or Christian and show it off to the nearest Muslim as show of tolerance for I-SLAM.

National Day of Prayer,....
If my memory serves me correctly, May 7th is the National Day of Prayer. Consider it our last day, POTUS is resending by executive order, The National Day of Prayer.
Some day you might be like Daniel who was caught and put in the Lions' den for praying in secret. I'll accept 264 days of prayer, with one day off to make the dems feel more accepted.

I don't get it. Islam is the least most tolerant of all the religions and they KILL Christians who convert from Muslim.

It's discouraging to watch our nation's values eroding away at such a horrible rate. I've always agreed with the phrase, "If everyone agrees with you all of the time, you stand for nothing." The latest trend is making the most people we can happy at one time. Of course logic and common sense have no place in this way of thinking.
My kids tried this rediculess approach in grade school. "If I'm nice to the bully, he'll have no reason to pick on me and everything will be okay." The reality is shocking when it's discovered there are just bad people on the planet who will look to take advantage of anything for self gain. It's only when my kids stood up to the bully, ready to take a pounding if they had to, that they ever began to experience any peace.
How much longer are we going to be giving away our county's lunch money to appease a group bent on having it all? These people are not going to be our friends.

I want Catholic Day, Protestant Day, Jewish Day, etc etc etc.
This is f'ing unbelievable. What's the matter, is Hawaii too far from DC, NY and PA to "get it"? Jackasses, all of them.

I think they should make every religion a holiday, and give us every day off, paid vacation... Wait, I'm retired, so, really, I don't give a crap.
Just another thing for people to get their blood pressure up about...
Islam day... Yeah... BOOM... I think they already HAD an Islam day...
It was 9/11/01... ...and I don't think they deserve another.
But that's just me. I'm an A-Hole... and Proud of it.
