That’s some serious PR...However, if you review the acceptance speech in Chicago and the Inauguration speech, you will see that when compared to other President elects; the speech parallels our foreign policy position that has existed for the last fifty years. The first thing BHO did was echo America’s stance and couple it to John Kennedy’s speech of “we will bear any burden, pay any price for the cause of freedom…....Basically, it does not matter who reaches the Oval office, unless the National security interest all agree, the foreign policy of These United States varies Little.

Do I feel safer? No - but the problem is, the trend has been in the same direction for decades.
For example - our borders seem poorly controlled. If people who wish to take rather unpleasant jobs and have no more backing than their personal resources can cross in large numbers, I have to ask why determined terrorists could not. Either some mechanism is able to discern the difference perfectly and filter out the terrorists, or there exists a gaping hole. It seems that national policy places a greater emphasis on increased trade than it does on security. In essence, this suggests that some number (a large number?) are expendable in pursuit of a specific economic goal.
Furthermore, I can listen to TV news or read a newspaper, and they all suggest that illegal drugs are easily obtained. Now if that's true, then clearly there are both production and transportation networks for contraband. And if that's true, then one must ask the rhetorical question of how we really expect to stop bad people from moving bad things to locations we won't like.
The TSA emphasizes airline safety. And yet, I come across items that suggest there are approaches which would defeat their measures rather easily. If those items are true, then the security measures are more for the sake of appearance than otherwise. And by the way - if I can come across such things, I suspect just about anyone can.
I observe the current reaction to swine flu. If I may be permitted a rather sour observation, it combines panic, confusion, and intentional lethargy in such a perfect manner that we gain all of the problems and none of the benefits of each. On the one hand, we are at level 5, we close our schools, should wash our hands obsessively, and visit the doctor upon the first cough. Our VPOTUS suggests avoiding public transportation before a hasty retraction. And yet - we are supposed to simply go about our lives. One cannot help but wonder which path is best. But if we cannot make effective policy decisions and implement them in one area - can we do it elsewhere?
In essence, my perception is that our national security is not a high priority among the national policy-makers. As we reduce the resources dedicated to the effort, and restrict the actions of those involved in the effort, I find it difficult to imagine the risk will not increase.

Right Now?
Right Now?
My views on how safe I am here in my home town have not changed much - Right Now - since the New President took office.
But my views on how safe I "WILL" be in 5 to 10 years have changed.
It takes time for changes to perk through the system, bad guy plans to be made, security to be tested and something bad to happen.
Most Americans live in the "Now" and don't think about next month, much less 3 years from now.

My understanding of the primary question was "what is this administration doing to keep our country safe". I see very little being done by the current administration to keep this country safe. I dont see any long range programs being initiated to protect Americans.
But, then again WDIK. Im just a feller that lives out cheer in the holler next to the crick.

...I am more afraid that my government will "turn me into a criminal" because of my beliefs, opinions, or private property than I am that a terrorist attack will cause injury or death to a family member or loved one.
I am more afraid that the 'spread the wealth around' fix to the economy will hamr the future of my children than I am that a terrorist attack will harm the future of my children.
I am however concerned that our defenses are being weakend, and once an 'incident' DOES occur our leadership will use the "never waste a good crisis" approach to push their social agenda to the extreme...
just my two cents... maybe I am wrong
