Colorado Woman's Tofu License Plate Judged X-rated

One Colorado woman's love for tofu has been judged X-rated by state officials.
Kelly Coffman-Lee wanted to tell the world about her fondness for bean curd by picking certain letters for her SUV's license plate.

Her suggestion for the plate: "ILVTOFU."

But the Division of Motor Vehicles blocked her plan because they thought the combination of letters could be interpreted as profane.

Says Department of Revenue spokesman Mark Couch: "We don't allow 'FU' because some people could read that as street language for sex."

Officials meet periodically to ensure state plates stay free of letters that abbreviate gang slang, drug terms or obscene phrases.

The 38-year-old Coffman-Lee says tofu is a staple of her family's diet because they are vegan and that the DMV misinterpreted her message.

Here in California, the DMV vets vanity plates for suggestive meanings. One can also report plates that slip through the process.

Many years ago, I saw one that escaped attention: BENWA

Then there was: MR PLOW

The plates I don't understand are the ones that say the make or model of a vehicle. People are so status conscious that they want you to make sure you know it was a BMW 740IL that just sped past you at warp 5.

Hopefully, none of these folks work in fields requiring creativity.

My wife a few years back got new plates for the car.

It started SWF-

I had to clue her in on SWF, she was not too happy but kept the plate.

Suggestive license plates are nothing compared to some of the bumper stickers that you see on vehicles. I often wonder if there are any City or State ordinances that govern that type of expression.

What really disgusts me is when some young wannabe gang banger pulls up next to me at a red light with his windows down and has a loud boom bass stereo blaring 'gangsta rap' at full volume. Lyrics that include MFer and a host of other profanities just irk me. At those times I wish that I were a LEO and could issue a citation on the spot.

He owned a H2 Hummer.

Florida and I think Alabama have statutes prohibiting "obscene" bumper stickers.
I doubt they have ever won a case.

When I was in sixth and seventh grade my Dad was stationed withthe 1/94th FA in Nurenberg. We lived in Furth. All the Furth license plates stared with FU and two more letters and then numbers. I taught my little brother (6YO) how to sound out words. Mom was not amused.

Haven't you learned to fight fire with fire? I have a cd of bagpipe music. I happen to like bagpipe music.

My last studio was above the "African Ancestor Village". Sunday mornings was a 'men's group". It was nothing more than a 2 hour lecture on the evils of what the white man as done to us and that we need to hate them and are entitled to $$$ and so on. It was nauseating. Complaining that they were a bunch of racist pricks would have done nothing but get me laughed at..
Soooo I would turn the speakers facedown and played bagpipe music LOUD.
Some days it was Merle Haggard, or Khalid singing Rai music.
Then there was the really bad African drumming class. It was horrible.. and they did it till 1am on Wed nights. I got them to move to another part of the 'village away from being directly under me by the same trick.
Speakers face down. Uncle Mufofo or Hossam Ramzy drumming cd's...
So then they moved under my GF's studio.. she thanked me for that profusely and borrowed my bagpipe cd's.

I lived in the 'hood for the better part of 3 yrs. I always found the cars that I swear I could see the windows breathing in and out from the bass booms. Sometimes they would be so loud, with the windows up even. I could hear the car 3 stories up, with the windows closed over my music/tv. Geez
