deploy rant

This is my own little mini rant.. note I am livid at the moment.. and this is personal opinion... from a livid mom..

I think IF you sign on the dotted damn line and agree to put a uniform on.. IF you are next in line to be damn deployed. Saying, 'oooooo i need family time' should be a court effing marshall offense to get out of being deployed to A'stan or any other effing place.

I spent most of my life supporting my soldier. I did not get all pissy when he called and said, "I am gone in an hour, for how long I don't know. cya when I get back." We lost christmas', birthdays, holidays, you name it.. it was his job, it was how he took care of me and the kids. My job was to be there when he got home and to not bitch, moan and whine about his being gone and to support him when he was gone and was home. I wasn't always the best, but I tried and did not expect him to be there all the time. It was a fact of our lives.

Just a few minutes ago, I get a call from a close family member, someone who is my heart. I said hello, he said, "lets just cut to the chase, I don't like this and you won't either, I am being deployed to XXXX at XXXX and all because the guy supposed to go did not want to go back and wanted 'family time."

Excuse me, that lil F@#*^%$#@ has no cujones, no sense of honor.. you join you go where they tell you and you do what you are told.. what gives him the right to say "no"... he is a soldier its his job mon.

It screwed up a LOT of stuff... jumpmaster school, more comm school stuff.. a packet sitting on his desk filled (shhhhhhhh I am not supposed to mention that, but hel, that is great news.. ) just all kinds of stuff...

You younger guys.. remember when you opt out, someone else gets the job and it might mess up thier plans. But that person has the intestinal fortitude to say, "thats my job, when do we leave?'

It has been a scramble to ditch the car, make arrangements for a new best man at a wedding. I have to wait to get an apo to get my Sat phone to him.

Perhaps being the dtr of a career office and the wife(s) of several Marines who deployed constantly colors my attitude.. but still.

I am mad as heck at the gutless, spineless, no honor, #&^%$#@@$%^*((&^% dipsh*t that should be sent to somewhere heinous for his behavior.. oh I know.. let him leave sf support and go to the infantry.. yeah that would do the trick.. those guys don't realize how good they got it..

Now that I am starting to get calmer... thank you Pyrat Rum.. yes, RUM IS THE ANSWER.. THANK YOU to all you QP's and your support personell who keep me free and safe and the wind I sail in free. I just want ALL of you to come home safe to all of those who love you so.

Ain't him you should be mad at.

And as a side note - the full story might not be being told. There might be a real good reason for "family time".

Correct... but.... my family member _knows_ this guy.. and the excuse of needing 'family time" was and is because he does not want to deploy back to the middle east. He has been saying that for awhile now.. and plans on not reupping..

The person being deployed today was simply next in line. He could have pleaded his recent lasik surgery, he is barely out of the no fly time..or the jumpmaster school he was scheduled for in May or.... or...
but as he said to me, "it is my job, they need me, so I go.. anything else can wait. " I would have expected nothing less from my soldier. I guess summer there is better than winter..if that is any consolation..

So its off to work for me.. VA called they need someone to do triage in the ER tonight.. I now live with my cell phone on my person 24/7.

The guy might not have enough time left on his enlistment contract for a deployment and the unit decided not to take him because of it. I can understand your angst fed ire, but what soldiers sometimes tell each other is not always the full story. I am sure the rest of the story is yet to be told.

I have to agree, there is more to this story. Hell the AF doesn't even accpet that as an excuse to not deploy. And if the AF doesn't accept it, you damn well know the Army doesn't either.

afchic I'm going to have to disagree with you there, I think it all depends on the commander and the leadership climate. I've personally seen this type of thing happen in Security Forces units both active and reserve, particularly with a week commander in charge and some back door dealings going on at the senior enlisted levels.

Pisses me off to no end but it does happen.

Not anymore, from what I have seen. You have to justify a reclama to the 3 star MAJCOM Deputy Commander. The Three Star then has to justify it to all the other three star deputies within the AF. No one wants to be the one that has to do that. So I have seen, that even if there is a good reason for a reclama, it is going to be denied so the 3 star doesn't look bad to his peers.

But when you're talking reclama it's when you can't fill the slot at all, at least it was as of a year ago, when you changed a name that was not considered a reclama, just a sub which happens on most trips at least in the Security Forces world, things happen, someone gets hurt in training or has to have emergency surgery. Hell we had a guy who had to have an emergency appendix surgery less than a weak out of our last trip, called in an alternate and pressed on.

Slackers are in my top 5 things that peg the meter off its bs scale.
When I do lose my temper it is short and sweet.. didya know that dinner plates me most excellent frisbees? Then I am over it..

WE, he and me, are good to go.. as I write this he is in the air for there.
I will get a call when he is downrange.. and an APO address.. He mentioned chocolate and coffee.

I sure hope the QP's he is providing support for know they got the best man in this deal. I got to thinking about it.. someone who does not want to be there and is willing to do whatever it takes to get himself out of going back to wherever they are. That person, is simply not worth having around.
When the chips are down, would he provide the best comm support he could or would he slack off??? Perhaps a TS or two knows that and let him slide.
They know the roster, who was next..

I talked to him about 9pm...he is GTG and says this sounds like 'fun'. OH good lord.. I need more rum. Isn't it nice to have children who give one a good excuse to imbibe.. as if I needed an excuse... sunsets, moonsets, and so on...

I did mention the fact that since Group did not get the permission slip for this field trip to me in a timely manner, I felt compelled to tell them that I was not going to sign said permission slip and would be delighted to drive down and explain my position in person. "oh god, you would too wouldn't you?"
"Absolutely for all the good it would not do, but at least it might provide some QP's a vast amount of amusement at my expense. Fly safe, have a good time see you in xxxx"

You sound like my mother. She went through my fathers service but when I went in and deployed all over she had a problem dealing with her little boy being sent in harms way. She still worries but she deals with it. What would worry me more AM is if you did not get all hinked up when he deploys. Remember keep the care packages going and he will be OK.

Yes Sir, that pretty much sums it up. I am GTG with his being deployed any place any time.. He has an awesome support system back here CONUS.
We have his back trust me on that.. anything he or the teams he supports want or need that is whithin my pocketbook or means to get to him.. I will do so... although that 50lbs of shrimp and crawfish.. we had the seafood, the dry ice, and FedEx would help me..but the Army could not garuntee a 3 day delivery to Victory... the dry ice would last that long...
