Soldier fell from Jeep in freeway incident

A police report identifies the soldier who died on the All American Freeway early Friday as Jason Anthony Lightfoot, 30, of Tennessee.

According to the report, a Jeep was traveling north on the shoulder of the freeway at 2:51 a.m. Friday. Lightfoot fell off the hood of the vehicle, struck the road and died.

Christine Gail Pearce, 39, of Virginia, was inside the vehicle and had argued with Lightfoot before the crash, according to police and the report. She attempted to slow the Jeep, which was going 40 mph in a 55 zone, according to the report.

The report does not specify when or how Lightfoot got on the hood of the vehicle.

Lightfoot was a sergeant with the 3rd Special Forces Group, according to U.S. Army Special Forces Command. He was an Army watercraft engineer, who enlisted in June 2000.

A native of Beaumont, Texas, Lightfoot was attached to the 558th Transportation Company, 6th Transportation Battalion out of Fort Eustis, before he was assigned to Fort Bragg in June 2008.

Lightfoot is survived by his mother, Karen Lightfoot, of Graysville, Tenn.; his father, Leslie Lightfoot, of Beaumont, Texas; and one sister, Candace Lightfoot of Chattanooga, Tenn.

No charges have been filed, and police are still investigating the incident.
