Some advice on another route to SF please...
Hello Quiet Professionals,
First I would like to start by saying thank you for all the knowledge you have provided me with this site. I have read a large portion of these great threads even before I became a member and continue to do so.
I recently began my paperwork regarding the 18x contract and scored very high on my ASVAB. I already know that I will score 300 on my APFT. I would score 600 if that was the top score.
When I was very young, at about the age of 15, I got arrested for several "bad" things at once. To keep it simple, I decided to take a plea bargain because that is what my lawyer said to do. I did not commit any of those crimes nor was I present when the crimes were committed. Unfortunately, I was included because I was sitting next to the guys when they got arrested 3 months later. I also have a few other incidents (below misdemeanors, drinking in the park) and my recruiter said that I will need a moral waiver.
I understand that if this is the case I will be disqualified from an 18x and an option 40 contract. My question is, by joining the active army, will I be able to get the proper security clearance in the future and get a shot at SFAS? Or does the above scenario bar me from SF for life? How about the Rangers? In the case that I am eligible at a future date, what would I need to do while in the Army to obtain that eligibility?
I understand that there are extensive threads regarding moral waivers but I haven't seen anything on this specifically; Getting into SF through the big Army when my original enlistment required a moral waiver. If I missed it, I sincerely apologize and will look again tonight. Thank you again.
Best,
Mental

Read the stickies, and then work your way through the SF and SFAS forums.
An SF recruiter would be a good guy to ask.
You show a disturbing lack of judgement for someone as smart as you claim to be. I would have serious doubts about your ethics, morals, and character.
Best of luck.

Sorry for posting simple questions which have wasted your time. I did not mean for my post to be a shortcut. It was made in haste because I just found out from my recruiter about the waiver. I understand bad, hasty decisions are not SF attributes and a feeling of shame is starting to crawl up my esophagus. I will do an equal amount of research about this as I originally did for the 18x and option 40 program/contract. I will also include an SF recruiter in my list of contacts to further educate me on this topic. Thank you for this.
As for my character, on paper I don't look that great but it is a long story and when I am being assessed I will be sure to tell it in full. Some of my past has made me into a better person and I have been a good guy for a long time now.
Best,
Mental

I would like to see a 600. Assuming you are 17-21 that would be:
142 Push Ups in 2 minutes
156 Sit Up in two minutes
and run 2 miles in 6.5 minutes
Aside from the fact that you would be a blur, keep in mind that the stadards are exact and rigorously enforced.

Is that time even possible? If so, I can definately see why you guys are the best of the best. Only people I have seen who can boast timings like that are people from Kenya. I swear when those people are born, they don't pop out but run . . .

Sorry Dozer523 and other QP's. I didn't mean to come off sounding like a jerk. I shouldn't have referenced any scores. If I can't get into the 18x program I will (hopefully) get a chance to be in the 82nd Airborne and will strive to be at the top of my class. As of now, I will concentrate on my 25m target.
