There is Whisky & Whiskey,,

The story of a new buddy...

We had some old friends in for the weekend. They were both born & raised in Kentucky,, they can both quote the NASCAR top 20 standing points leaders,, and have UK tats on their butts,, They are now retired and live on Lake Kentucky,, They were not happy Saturday nite,, nuff said??

Anyway,, They brought a present for me,, a little bottle of that Woodford Whiskey..

I think I found a new drinking bud...

1st a little background,, I have been a Whisky drinker for 25 years. I had a boss that was born in Scotland, who's 1st job out of hi-school was a dock hand at Johnny Walker,, he knows his Whisky.. He taught me well.. I was easily converted because of my early days in the service, drinking WildTurky or Jack, with coke,, to strong,, to much smoke, to raw,, Whiskey spelled with a BITE,, and lot's of hangover(s)..

I'm not a fussy drinker,, as long as it's smooth, full bodied, a creamy flavor with a back-end pop. It's either neat or a couple ice cubes. I am not a big Whisky drinker,, maybe 1 bottle a year total.. My EDC (every day consumption) is rum & coke or vodka on the rocks..

My current hidden inventory: (in my neighborhood,, you need to hide the good stuff)

So,, Back to my new buddy. I poured 2 fingers,, 3 med ice cubes,, and I am very pleasantly surprised..

I don't have all the fancy taste & flavor bits,, but I can say it very very good.. I would rank the Woodford between a GlenMorangie 10 yr and a little dryer and less sweat than the Balvenie, Double Wood.. It has a good finish, no after taste.. It favors the Highland style, smooth to the end...

After the 1st test,, I poured a couple more fingers and we sat down to dinner,, yup,, you heard me,, Instead of wine,, I like a good Whisky with my meat. Mama, whipped up a couple big think juicy rib-eyes, baked-spuds, & salad.

The Woodford was a perfect complement to a chunk of perfect medium rare beef...

I have the Balvenie Double Wood, as well...hmmm...never tried Woodford's...gonna get a bottle of the local hootch at the liquor store to celebrate my recent change of livelihood...

Bought a bottle of Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey. Interesting stuff. Made from four barleys, it has a sweet finish. It's $60 a bottle, not an every evening beverage, and it's not that much better than a Jack Daniels or less expensive whiskey.

You see, in Washington State, all liquor stores are run by the government. So these things... take time.

Doubel Wood is my go to on the road, unfortunately good whisky is hard to find in the Key's. We have a fair selection in most package stores, but the bars are lacking.. Most are set up for volume drinking touristas, not quality..

I was introduced to B DW at our 25th Anniversary party. After hurricane Georges in 99' We went to Little Palm with some friends. It was the 2nd day they had re-opened after the storm. After a very nice meal,, and rather than have desert, I ask for their Whisky list. The only bottle they had was B DW. Everything else was destroyed in the storm. The Manager gave me the bottle as a present,, had about 4 oz left.. Made me a believer..

Looks like you just found your nitch. You should call it "A Taste of Kentucky's Team House"

Stock the great KY bourbons and have some of those lower cost rums for the tourist. Not too big of a place but big enough to hold the regulars. Decorate it with some of the Keys stuff but give it a country flavor from Ky. It will work.....
Hell it will give me a place to drink when I am TDY there.....
