Attack in Pakistan on cricket team

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/wo...4pstan.html?hp

As if anyone needed more proof that this is a country unable to control its own security. It's not hard to envision that this sort of thing could lead to a failure of the Pakistani government.

Check out the picture of the attackers:

On the bright side, at least they don't bother to aim their weapons, or use cover. It's probably not necessary when the Pakistani police were apparently unable to shoot back effectively.

The toll: 6 dead policemen and 1 civilian. I know at least 6 policemen who were unable to run, or just perhaps, they chose not to run!

Police escorts who were traveling in a van fired back but failed to hit the attackers, witnesses said. The assailants fled in the rickshaws and another vehicle stolen near the scene, Mr. Janbaz said, leaving behind rucksacks filled with pistols, hand grenades and an AK-47 assault rifle, he said. Television footage showed several of the gunmen firing with apparent impunity, spraying bullets from automatic rifles from the traffic circle and a grassy sidewalk area.
Maybe my comment came across the wrong way. I probably shouldn't have said they were running away, but apparently, they weren't able to return effective fire on the assailants who didn't seem to be making much of an effort to be a difficult target.

Don't take it as blanket insult to police officers. It was not intended that way.

Ceylon--oops...I mean Sri Lanka--and India are an old issue which apparently has not been settled to the satisfaction of some of the groups involved. Makes for a bit of a sticky wicket and such, though, what?
